There appears to be a lot less of Chapels and more of creating your own adventure love story. The more Traditional Wedding is becoming a thing of the past and brides appear to be bringing more of their unique individual creativity to the table.
We recently chatted with some of our Wedding Planners and vendors in the
Make Up & Hair , Dress, Flower, Cake and Stationery space to find out what they had to say about future wedding trends in 2020. Although you might just want to go entirely with what you have in mind (and that is fine :), if you are thinking puffy and unique sleeves, light fabrics, lace and bronzy eye shadow you might just be the next trend setter bride-to-be!
Caren Fourie says that harsh brows, straight angles and lines are getting left behind while soft, natural and fresh lips are on the rise. Bronzy eye shadow is going to be a biggy together with soft, natural wavy hair and tussled low buns! Make Up & Hair by MB also adds that minimal make up that enhances natural beauty is a definate yes with less braids, pins and heavy hair sprayed styles.
Anchor and Rose confirms that cosmetic brands are showing signs of the return of the "dewy lip" so matte lipsticks are taking a bit of a backseat in 2020. Make Up by Taryn can't wait to see carefully curated elegant looks like low chignons, tastefully curled side-buns and the Hollywood wave worn over one shoulder.
Janine Korvessis Hair & Make Up explains that gone are days of heavy contouring, Instagram brows and illuminating highlights. 2020 is a time to enhance natural beauty. It is about tinted moisturizer rather than full coverage foundation. Soft pastels such as pinks, purples, blues, greens and even reds on the eyes is becoming trendy. Soft natural pink swept across the apples of the cheeks gives the blushing bride look. For the lips it is something that accentuates the natural colour. Hairstyles are soft and flowing styles like braids, natural curls, twisties and free-flowing hair. 2020 is a time to ditch hairspray and invest in a sea-salt spray. This is an era where brides are wanting to embrace their inner Goddess and beauty and loose the chisel-me-off plastered on make-up look!
Kelly Jayne's Cake Boutique predicts hand painted cakes becoming more popular with lots of floral, botanical leaves and ferns. She also adds that mosaic patterns and geometric shapes are moving more into the mix. If alcoholic flavouring is your thing, then you might want to consider some trendy flavours like pink champagne, whiskey and amaretto! Just like bronze is making its' appearance into the make-up world, metallic colours like bronze are also making their way onto wedding cakes in 2020.
Mon Ami Cakes is also seeing more of an 'au naturel' theme with flowers, berries, natural twigs, shells and other natural elements making their decorative appearance. It most definately seems that semi naked and naked cake styles will still be hot on the cards for 2020! In order to cut down on costs, lots of brides are using their wedding cake as dessert so be sure to have a cake that looks and tastes amazing if you decide to go this way!
It seems now more than ever we are blurring the boundaries between cake and art shares Sweet LionHeart. Cake designers across the globe are showing more movement towards the sculptural/abstract realm which is really exciting! It seems the more obscure wedding cake style is stealing the show combining traditional pastry techniques with classical art techniques.
With foiling continuing to be a big stationery trend in 2020 Handmade by Janine adds that Rose Gold, especially paired with blush and lots of greenery will continue to be a thing in 2020! Invitations printed on perspex and wax seals appear to have made a strong come back adding a very classy finish together with hand written fonts. It appears that printed invitations will only be done for close family, older guests and a copy for the bride and groom. Electronic save the dates and invitations are a great way to ensure your guests will receive their invitation in time ;)
Secret Diary adds that acrylic is huge whether it be used for invitations, menus, table numbers and place cards, and will definately keep its' stand well into 2020.
Lua Nova Studio says 2020 is all about eco-friendly and sustainable materials! Handmade plantable seed paper where guests can literally plant their stationery and watch it grow! There also appears to be a shift away from using lots of florals with clean and minimalist designs that showcase an intricate monogram rather than graphics.
Ivory White explains that modern stationery design is elegant, clean, sleek and chic. Bold acrylics and perspex will lead the way with geometric shapes for signage. People are also fast replacing static digital invitations with animated invitations. Classic crests and silk ribbons will continue to remain a thing.
It's interesting, beautiful and fun and all about ruffles, puffy sleeves, shoulder details, illusion necklines, transparent corsets, pant suits and big graphic lace embroidery is what
Michelangela Bridal Boutique think!
Rene H Couture sees a strong use of stunning embroidery and lace fabrics for the entire gown. Rene also adds that veils are getting much more popular in a cathedral style with personalized wording or images on the hems.
Lo Voglio Bridal Boutique is seeing a lot of ball gowns in flowy and floral printed fabrics. Dresses with statement sleeves are gaining popularity in off-white, nude and blush pink colours.
The South African trend for next year, which is based on the latest New York Bridal Trends is very exciting explains Infinity Dress. Imagine silver, gold, light pink and red holographic bridesmaids dresses.....2020 trends appear to have space for every kind of bridal style!
Valencia Harrison Designs adds that upcoming trends are textures and clean architectural lines with lots of solid plainer fabrics. The traditional ballgown will be making a big comeback for sure!
Ilse Roux Bridal Wear sees elegant, timeless and the lace on skin effect in high fashion for 2020. Detachable overskirts are worn over a fitted wedding gown in order to enhance elaborate trains. It is all about bell, blouson and puff sleeves this winter making them a high statement accessory. Deep V necklines and an off the shoulder neckline are most popular.
Weddings By Andrea can't make it more clear that the overall consciousness of wedding themes 2020 is an environmentally savvy space. More brides and grooms are investing in local, earth-friendly and reusable materials. From detailed and layered table settings to textured tablecloths and under plates, it seems to be all about beauty and elegance for guests to see, touch and smell. With a clear emphasis on local flora winning the show, you can expect to see shades of classic blue and corals.
Warren-Stone Weddings adds that brides are really celebrating their uniqueness. From spray painting dried flowers to celebrating candles for who they are on their own without glass cylinders, one can expect to see Pantone's classic blue as the colour for 2020. Brides are all about embracing the natural elements of their wedding venues. They are opting to not have a wedding cake but rather smaller treats like cake pops or stacked cheese cakes.
a | CREATE have shared that deconstructed ceremony seating is really big. Traditional ceremony seating has always involved rows but brides have shaken things up by introducing more lounge type furniture items in their ceremonies. Couples are opting for circular style gatherings which tends to create a much more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Suspended seating is being welcomed with open arms having a single hanging chair for every second lounge pocket. These furniture pieces come in difference shapes and sizes so no matter how big or small your wedding is you are sure to find furniture pieces that will fit.
Trou Vriendin adds that brides are turning away from the traditional under plate and would rather go for a napkin on the table with cutlery placed in a creative way. Coloured cutlery either gold, rose gold or black are the new must haves at weddings. Brides are moving more toward floral napkins with greenery or white flowers for extra detail.
There appears to be a large shift towards more sustainable and cost effective floral solutions.
Opulence Flowers has seen a huge demand for more DIY hiring options. It appears that Orchid hiring will continue to remain popular in 2020!
A Dream Come True says that brides are leaning more towards dried florals as this appears to be better for the environment and more cost effective. Less is more with lighting taking a front seat. Bridal couples seem to be spending more on lighting than flowers. Couples who tend to want flowers are opting to use local flowers instead or greenery which is easier on the budget. Brides are becoming more adventurous with colour and this is exciting!
Dane Verwey Florals mentions that as we move into 2020 there appears to be more focus on a more lush and simplistic look. There is more focus on the breathing space on the tables.
Twiggs Florist envisages long rectangular tables with runners of flowers and in some instances just greens for 2020. Herb and lavender centrepieces are becoming more and more popular and brides seem to be preferring simpler and much smaller bouquets as not to detract focus from their beautiful dresses!
Trou Vriendin adds that brides are after succulent bouquets and table arrangements while burgundy flowers are also very trendy. Greenery is one of the most effective money saving trends. Most brides still want those pops of colour and would usually just go for less flowers that are filled up with more greenery.
Fabulous Fynbos says that 2020 wedding florals have developed into interesting combinations of previously separate, often contradicting styles. These include wild and elegant, boho and chic, rustic and classical. Proteas and fynbos remain popular and are often combined with elegant garden flowers such as Lyzmachia, Veronica, Gladiolii, Lizianthus and of course, Roses! Unusual shapes and textures are being used in interesting combinations with greens, fynbos and grasses often dominating. The use of arches, frames, tepees, gazebos as well as ceiling greens and runners are definately trending.
