Magical Moments

The day before the wedding the door of my room got stuck due to the house shifting which caused the tiles to crack underneath the door. I was locked in the room and the only way out was by climbing down the balcony. My three younger sisters jokingly teased that I was Rapunzel and that I should let down my hair. On the day of the wedding when I put on my dress I truly felt like the princess they jokingly teased that I was. The entire week before the wedding it rained constantly and we were worried about where the photo's would be taken. On the day of the wedding we were blessed by rain during the ceremony (as it is commonly referred to as good luck and prosperity in the marriage). Moments after the ceremony the rain stopped suddenly and most of the clouds disappeared, we therefore had the opportunity to get the perfect photo's outside. Our luck didn't stop there, on the way back from the location were we decided to take photo's we spotted an open wheat field and had an extra photo opportunity. On the day my mom prepared me and told me that I should not be disappointed if everything isn't perfect and does not go as planned, however the day turned out to be even more than perfect, it was an extraordinary day filled with luck, excitement, love and appreciation. We were surrounded by close family and friends, had many precious moments and laughed a lot. Our wedding has been a long awaited moment as we are high school sweethearts and have been dating since we were in the 9th grade.

The Honeymoon

We remained in the Garden Route for our honeymoon. We stayed in Wilderness at the Forest Hill guest house for three nights, we visited various restaurants in the area, walked the Kingfisher Trails and we visited the Garden Route Wolf Sanctuary. Thereafter we spent three nights at Seeplaas in Groot Brakrivier, we visited the local chocolatier, De Vette Mossel, the Outeniqua Transport Museum and the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre in George.

My Special Day

My sister did my hair and makeup for the wedding, we opted for a natural look with minimal makeup and a messy hair bun. Bridal room provided my dress. The day I went in for my first fitting session I had a clear idea of what I wanted, however things did not work out as I planned. I picked out four dresses I wanted to fit and the lady who assisted us slipped a dress of her own choice in the back of the other dresses. I would never have picked the dress for myself, but it turned out to be the perfect dress for me. The dress brought tears to both me and my mothers eyes. I knew in my heart that it was the perfect dress for me. Sproose delivered my pink vellies and handbag, which I wore with funky socks. The bridal party all wore funky socks, which created a very fun photo opportunity. My husband gifted me with custom made white gold earrings on the day of the wedding as I always tend to forget to pack them in when I travel. Both his ring and my ring were custom made by William Judson at The Jewellery Repair Co. My rings are very fine and intricate, my engagement ring has a weaving pattern with two small diamonds and a large diamond in the middle. My wedding ring is a band of small diamonds. His ring is a wider ring with a Celtic knot pattern to represent our love and what our marriage represents. Our rings were crafted with white gold.

The Venue

We got married at Stoepsit near Vleesbaai. The venue is rustic and authentic, with astonishingly beautiful surrounding scenery. The staff are very helpful and professional. They went above and beyond to help make our special day perfect. They even assisted with the planning and arrangements and helped to find the best local florists, bakers and various other services. The guests stayed at various surrounding guest houses such as the Sandpiper Cottages.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom wore a khaki chino from Old Khaki, the groomsmen wore eucalyptus green chino's from Country Road and the father of the bride wore a sage green chino from Country Road. They opted for no blazers and chose a more casual look which fitted the theme of the wedding very well, creating a more relaxed vibe. They wore leather bow ties with white formal shirts and brown leather vellies with their special funky socks, the father of the bride wore green Freedom of Movement vellies.

My Captured Moments

Ruan Redelinghuys captured our special moments. He has won multiple awards for his photography and is such an amazing person. He never made us feel uncomfortable and he tried to keep the photos as natural as possible. He never told us how to pose or where to stand, he told us to stay in the moment and enjoy every second of it. He stole priceless memories throughout the night without anybody noticing. He captured all our quirks and mannerisms to a tee, without us even noticing. He has a way of seeing things the normal eye would miss. He captured the way we hold our hands, the way we smile when we tease each other, the way we light up when we see each other and all my clumsiness in between and how my husband patiently helps me when I stumble. He helped us to make this special day last forever.

The Wedding Planner

The wedding was planned by me, my mother, my sister and my husband. My mother made most of the arrangements, I was responsible for the decor and stationary as well as other design components, my husband assisted me when I got indecisive and my sister was responsible for the order of events. She was also the master of ceremonies and made sure all the guests were attended to.

Wedding Stationery

All the stationery was personally designed and printed by me (the bride). We opted for a travel theme as we had a destination wedding and most of our guests live in Pretoria. I created baggage tags for the seating arrangements, the menu was a travel card. The order of events were handed out to guests as tickets. Our invitation was printed and digital wedding passports. My husband assisted me in every item I designed, I am very indecisive and often end up with two ideas from which he will then pick the one he likes most.
