Magical Moments

Our whole wedding day from start to finish was one big highlight and memorable day!
But if I had to single out a few, it would be waking up the morning of our wedding day with my parents playing me a very special song which is dear to my heart, we shared a very intimate and special moment which cannot be replaced.
But also of course, walking down the aisle and seeing my very emotional husband-to-be having only eyes for me.

The Honeymoon

We went to a very quiet and romantic resort in Mauritius for a week of spoils, relaxation and lots of fun.

My Special Day

I went for a clean, romantic and classical wedding look.

My makeup was beautifully done by the amazing and super professional Gerda du Plessis from Making Faces, my hair was done by Carmia from Carmia: Hair.Beauty.Make-up, whom I've known for years.

Believe it or not, my wedding dress was the very first one I had tried on, from Olivelli in Northcliff.
"Josie" is a Rebecca Ingram dress from the Maggie Sottero collection, made from Huron Mikado satin which fit like a dream and made me feel like an absolute princess.

My wedding shoes was bought from Aldo and the jewellery pieces were special gifts. I had decided to furthermore keep it simplistic.

The Venue

We got married in my hometown, Pongola, in northern Kwazulu-Natal at Kleinberg which is owned by friends of my parents.
It's a beautiful venue which complimented the style and look we had in mind for our wedding - "classical countryside".

Most of my family is from Pongola, which simplified logistics. However guests who traveled from afar stayed in various guesthouses in town, luckily not far from the venue.

My Bridal Beauty Regime

Funny enough, when I came to the realization that our wedding day was around the corner, I realized that I've never done any facial treatments or followed a specific fitness regime like I wanted to. But I decided to make peace with it and only focus on what was within my control.

I had my teeth fixed with braces 2 years before and splurged on teeth whitening a month before the wedding. I don't think I'll ever to that again (ouch), but my teeth looked better than ever and I certainly don't regret it.

Wedding Elements

My talented mother did all the flower arrangements as well as took charge with our décor. We gave our inputs on the style and look we wanted and in turn we gave her free rein to put together the wedding of our dreams.
Our decor was rustic yet classy - wooden tables with lots of light!

Fame Production did our sound and lighting - we've known the owner for years and they never disappoint as they've kept our guests dancing until 4am the the next morning.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom wore a dark navy suit with a leather bow-tie from Freedom of Movement, and the groomsmen kept it plain with similar dark navy suit pants and white shirts.
We feel our wedding was not formal enough for suits and ties all-round.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore dusty rose-coloured floor-length dresses in two different styles from Chanelle Wright, a designer from Ballito, KZN.
This colour could be seen throughout our décor and I wanted to compliment it further with the bridesmaid dresses which added to the elegance and stylish undertones of our wedding day.

Marriage Officer

Our minister was Petrus Botha, whom I've known since my childhood and who is also the official minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in Pongola.

My Captured Moments

Anne Grace Photography (AGP) did an amazing job capturing our special day!
They were both our photographers as well as videographers, they were very professional yet they also felt like special guests at our wedding.

The Wedding Planner

We did not have a wedding planner, we did all the planning and coordination ourselves as a family.

Food & Cake

To this day our guests are still raving about the food at our wedding reception which was "boerekos" with a few fancy spins on traditional dishes. Hey - we even had lamb on the spit. It was delicious!
Our wedding cake, a layered caramel carrot cake, was lovingly made by my aunt.

Wedding Stationery

All stationery (save the date, invite, service program) was designed and made by myself and my husband (but proof-read by close family).

The Reception and Entertainment

Fortunately my husband and I did not need dance lessons (thanks to student-days "sokkie").

Our reception was certainly one to remember! From the moment guests arrived, they were treated to a complimentary gin-bar, various ciders and beers as well as delicious canapés.
After the formalities, Charl and his team from Fame Productions kept us dancing all night long (until well into the morning hours).

Oh, how I miss that day...
