We met on a planned blind date at Rhapsody’s, from a mutual friend of ours.
The moment we met, there was something that was just amazing to me about Janine. I went home not able to stop thinking about her. So, we went on a date pretty much every night! It was definitely love at first sight.
After being single for such a long time; and I have given up on love, Maryke told me about her work colleague that she wants me to meet. After saying yes and not expecting much, I met the woman of my dreams.
We ended up dating for 1 year and 9 months’ when I asked Janine to marry me.
Definitely a surprise. I arranged with my friend; who’s parents own the Farm to use it for the weekend. Everyone else besides Janine knew what was going to happen that weekend. Our weekend away to the farm in Dullstroom. I already had the location in mind. A beautiful hike down the mountain side, to a private catchment lake from the breath-taking waterfall. I told Janine to go and stand on this massive boulder that was on the water’s edge of the large water catchment area. While she was snapping pictures away, I secretly placed the picnic bag in such a way that I could use it to hold my phone. I pushed my phone into the picnic blanket, set the camera to a time-lapse and joined Janine on the boulder.
I had a general idea of what I wanted to say. I was too worried, that I pop the big question and we were not in the view of my camera! While she took another picture of the beautiful back-drop, I got the engagement ring out of my pocket, went down on one knee and as she turned around, I started blabbering my speech to her! With the pressure off of me asking the question, it was time to wait for her response. I knew what her answer was going to be, the hands over her mouth and the tears rolling down her cheeks, said it all. “YES!”, she said with her broken-up voice, crying and laughing and smiling all at once.
