Magical Moments

It was the absolute perfect day, a fairytale come true! Exactly what I dreamed it to be. It was priceless to see Pieter's (my husband) facial expression when he first saw me walk down the isle. We both lost someone very dear to our hearts to Motor Neuron Disease. Which is a disease that affects the motoneurons in the brain, resulting in ultimate body failure and death. Through our losses, our paths crossed. Pieter's brother was the late rugby player, Joost van der Westhuizen. My dad was a beneficiary at the J9 foundation that was found by Joost van der Westhuizen. After my dad's passing, I made contact with the foundation for support (as advised by dad) . Pieter and I fell in love, sharing and knowing the hurt and loss of a loved one with MND. On our engagement 11 July 2020, Pieter was thrown of his horse and cracked a rib and two weeks after the engagement, on my birthday 26 July 2020, we were involved in a church robbery, where 2 men were fatally wounded. Following our past hurt and hurdles we had to overcome, our wedding was our new chapter. We both felt like we were granted another chance at love and happiness. On our wedding day nothing went sideways, everything was absolutely perfect, I would have this day over and over again. We also had the opportunity to share our beautiful day with SA's famous household magazine, Huisgenoot. Our story was published on the front page and in their 12 November 2020 edition.

The Honeymoon

We left the day after the wedding and stayed over in Gariep at Waschbank lodge for one night. Thereafter we went to Wilderness in the Western Cape for one week. The beautiful accommodation was right on the beach, with amazing views of the sea from every angle in the house. We went Ziplining at the Tsitsikamma Waterfalls, Scootours in the indigenous rain forest of Knysna and one on one interaction with the orphan, rescue elephants at Knysna Elephant park and many more.
