How did your love story begin?

94.7 Singles in the City Party. How romantic! No, really.

Whackhead Simpson had matched Carl to someone, and I was appointed to accompany my friend as a winglady at the same party. It was a fun event, however I had more interest in enjoying the event than in meeting someone.
Danny, my wonderful friend, decided to throw me in the deep end for fun, and introduce me to this random stranger, which happened to be Carl. It was kind of awkward considering Danny didn't even know him. Carl and I, both tired of the general single dating small talk, got involved in a very animated conversation of racing earthworms and farming snails. (We don't really do that, but if someone asks you " what do you do for a living ", you can't reveal all your secrets right?)

We were then interrupted by Whackhead requesting Carl's presence, to meet his " match", however Carl said he would come back and find me to continue our conversation. I brushed it off and took it for what it was and headed to the dancefloor! It was not too long after that, that Carl actually did come back and find me, and our conversation picked up from where we left off - and the rest, is history.

Now we are no longer single in the city! Hehe!

Tell us all about the proposal.

Ah our proposal! :) We saved up our rands and flew to America for a friends wedding and a roadtrip holiday to Portland. I am a massive fan of sunflowers and it was the perfect time of year to go, walking down the streets and being surrounded by all the beautiful sunnies! Carl had initially planned to propose at Haystack rock, this beautiful site that I had put on my bucketlist years ago, but as we were driving towards Cannon Beach, I became immensely freaked out and tense with all the "tsunami warning" signs we came across! One of which said, "You are now entering a tsunami hazard zone!". Cue mild panic. It took the final evacuation route arrow sign as we were heading onto the beach for me to run back to the car and without knowing, ruin Carls plans! Neurotic, I know. We still had a super afternoon once we left the hazard zone! Phew.

The next day, we decided to go wine tasting. Blue skies, good wine and the love of my life, I was in a state of giddy bliss (okay, maybe that was the vino!). Whilst sitting on a little table outside, Carl asked me how I felt about getting engaged right then, at that moment. I thought he was joking. He then said he is going to the car to get the ring, of which I still thought he was joking, and he came back with the little box and proceeded to ask me to be his wife. I first ugly cried, questioned if he was being serious, then I felt sick as it was so unexpected. (Maybe too much vino and excitement?) I actually initially forgot to say yes... I was over the moon! He knew the answer anyway! Once I had stopped jumping around, I made it official and said yes! He picked the most beautiful ring, and I am still to this day so impressed he managed to suprise me! Celebrations ensued and we carted a bottle of wine from the wine farm back home to SA with us, and will be enjoying that on our wedding day!

August the 1st. What a wonderful day it was!

Magical Moments

Highlights of our day? The whole day was an absolute highlight! It started off with a giggle though, as I got up early and had a nice cup of coffee in bed - I was staring out at the beautiful views feeling relaxed and at peace, and a baboon decided to hop onto the balcony! I don't know who got more of a fright, me or him, but I managed to spill my coffee and start the day with a kick of adrenalin! Haha!
My whole day was just wonderful, it was full of love, laughter and ugly crying! I must say, my husband shed a little tear as I walked down the aisle, and my dad accidentally stood on the train of my dress as he was nervous which provided some entertainment! My bridesmaids suprised me with sunflowers and bubbly outside my door before breakfast and at the end of the night, a really good friend almost fell into the water feature which provided alot of laughs! It all went pretty much to plan and it was fun in abundance!

The Honeymoon

As our wedding was in January, we were just a little bit short on rands, so we took an adventurous roadtrip and explored the picturesque Elgin Valley in Cape Town.

My Special Day

The wedding look that I went for was " feeling beautiful in my own skin ". I am a very natural person (although I LOVE to dress up and feel pretty) and I wanted to still look like someone my husband would recognize walking down the aisle! My garter and my pink ombre flower hairpiece was crafted by the wonderful Kathleen Barry Bespoke Occasion accessories and my wedding dress was from the Blue by Enzoani 2020 range. I rented it from Lady-Anne Bridal in Hartbeespoort.
My hair and makeup was done by Hope May Pretorius, a very good friend of mine who is ridiculously talented! My shoes were from good old aunty Woolworths and accessories Lovisa!

The Venue

We got married at Red Ivory Lodge in Hartbeespoort. Their accommodation was on-site.

Wedding Elements

I am a lover of all things green and living! My colours for the wedding were burgundy, yellow and lots of greenery and I had heard through the grapevine that Oopsie Daisy Flowers & Decor were the best. I dealt with Whitney and she was absolutely wonderful. I had a combination of pennygum, aralia leaves, occulus ferns and burgundy carnations, snap dragons and pom poms on the tables.
I also adore lights so I tasked Clinton from Drapingworx to decorate the reception with lots of hanging naked bulbs.
The venue provided most of the other items.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The boys being boys, got the memo from my german hubby. Black pants, white shirt and the ties we got from amazon.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

I had oodles of problems regarding bridesmaids attire and I unfortunately placed an order through a supplier, who made the dresses in the completely wrong colour and not to measurements either. In the end and in a panic, I had to head off to YDE and buy my bridesmaids burgundy dresses. It was a disaster!

My Captured Moments

Our photographer was Alexis Muntz Photography. She provides a fantastic service and completely blew us away with her attention to detail! She is very easy to work with and hopefully if I fall preggy, will be available to do a maternity shoot too :) We also had a photobooth for when the shenanigans began - Thank you Snapbooths.
Also, as a favour and an added extra for our guests, we hired a caricature artist for the celebrations - Alan Simpson. He was a hit!
