Our wedding was absolutely beautiful from top to bottom! That it’s really hard to say what was the absolute best parts, but we would have to say that we felt the ceremony was made so special and that the whole wedding itself wasn’t super structured and it just made it so relaxed and enjoyable and I think that was also something so beautiful.
Our Honeymoon was an island dream holiday. The three weeklong honeymoon consisted of exploring the beautiful island of Bali. We stayed at a stunning beach side Resort called Sakala located more to the south of Bali. From there we branch out and travelled around, going all the way down to Malasti beach where we sat listening to Ragga, sipping coconuts and watching the waves break against the shore. We then travelled all the way up to Ubud where we stayed for two nights at Champlung Sari. Our time in Ubud was sort but memorable, we stayed on a shop filled street and a 2min walk away from the magnificent money forest which we got to experience. The day before leaving Bali gave us an unexpected send off by experiencing our first ever earthquake. Definitely a holiday we won’t forget.
Our wedding was a forest/woodland theme. The wedding was supposed to take place in a beautiful little forest just outside the hall, but the night before there was a huge storm and the forest area was all mulch. Not only that but it was also raining on the day. The wedding was moved inside but set up just as beautiful. For my dress I went with an nontraditional boho style. Peach in colour with touches of faint flowers and finished off with lace trimmings. The dress was actually a two piece with cuffed sleeves. I had this dressed made by Valencia Harrison who brought my dream dress to reality. My hair was full of different braids then filled with flowers, and my make up was a beautiful bronzed feel done by Jessica Truter. For shoes I went with something I would definitely be able to wear after, knee high brown boots. My jewellery consisted of beautiful pearl and gold earrings and then a beautiful antique locket that had a picture of my husband’s grandparents in. This was my something borrowed from my new sister in-law, which was so special.
Our wedding took place at a beautiful winery in Durbanville called D'Aria winery. Which also have beautiful little villages located just above the venue where we stayed the night of.
Our lighting and furniture where supplied from the venue itself. Which supplied us with beautiful wooden tables to match our theme, our napkins and charger plates were supplied by Hire4U. A few of our finishing touches were actually made by family members, like our geometric candle holders, easels, and flower stands and the end of the ales. We also had family all the way from Joburg bring beautiful glass vases all different shapes and sizes along with succulents picked for their gardens, to decorate the hall. The rest of our flowers where bought from Flowers for Africa in Cape Town.
My handsome husband wore a clean grey suite paired with a brown bow tie with beautiful patterns on. For shoes he wore brown David Jones shoes and finished off with baby’s breath and blushing bride flowers for his pocket.
Sticking with our nontraditional ways, I had one bridesmaid, my sister. Which I told she could wear anything as long as it’s a neutral colour. So, she went with a cream jumpsuit which tied in beautifully with my dress.
We were blessed to have Jean, which is a family friend who also married my husbands’ brother, to marry us. She prepared such a thoughtful service. My one worry was how to include my widespread family and she really made it so comfortable. She even added in a beautiful and meaningful blanket ceremony (originating from a Jewish tradition), which included us being wrapped in a blanket with our family surrounding us blessing our marriage. Which was simply stunning. That blanket now lays in a lounge as a beautiful reminder of all the love that surrounds us in our lives.
We had the privilege of having an international fine arts wedding photographer captured our special day. The images were not only beautiful, but he also made it so comfortable and fun just adding to the day. He was not only our photographer but a guest and it was absolute bliss having him around.
No planner was need, we had a super star of a sister in-law step in and help with absolutely everything. It was amazing and really helped us out with our busy schedules. Especially on the day coordinating and making sure that everything was as magical as it was.
Not to mention doing all this in about 4 months.
One our day and a few days leading up to the wedding we had Ettiene a coordinator from the venue itself help set up an absolutely wonderful inside forest and made sure the whole night went smoothly. He was and absolute saint. Even with the aftermath of the insane storm the night before which left us without any power the morning of the wedding. He managed to pull together our perfect wedding.
Food, Food, Food. We wanted nothing to be structured and set so we went with a harvest style table for the family lunch. Fully of food, all done by the amazing venue, for you to pick. For dessert we had an abundance of green and white macrons prepared my amazing sister in-law accompanied by a beautiful green 2-tiered cake with flowers along the side by Samantha Liang.
For our friend’s dinner service, we had a variety of flat breads that were served by waiters along with finger foods. For dessert we had wedding cake and a tower of brownies and strawberries which was delish!
Stationary wasn’t really a BIG thing for us, we decided doing it all online paper free was the best choose!
Our wedding was far from traditional. Having a two-part wedding that began in the morning with a small family interment ceremony, which followed with a lunch running to 4pm. After that all our friends joined at the venue for celebratory drinks and canapes. By doing it this way we didn’t break the bank, but everyone there that was important to us.
Our wedding had no particular structure which created a very relaxed and enjoyable day and night
