The Honeymoon

When deciding on our wedding date, we decided that we wouldn't go on honeymoon right away and would just have a getaway weekend somewhere local. Needless to say, there wasn't much planning done when it came to the Honeymoon (well from my side at least), the "plan" was to maybe go down to Cape Town for the Long weekend, since we got Married over the long weekend in April.

My Fiance at the time did an amazing job of hiding a really exciting secret from me for quite a while, because on the day of our wedding, he surprised me during his speech with a gift - a travel journal - and inside of it was a "ticket" to Mauritius.

I was so surprised and impressed that my husband was able to keep this a secret from me - but was so glad he did because it made our special day even better!

Our Honeymoon was spent on the beautiful beaches of Mauritius. We spent so much time just enjoying each others company - and eating and drinking way too much!! It was an experience we will treasure forever!

The Venue

We got married at the beautiful Hertford Country Hotel.

The minute we stepped into the venue at the Hertford, we fell in love with the crisp white walls against the contrast of the green gardens just outside.

The crystal chandeliers brought an element of elegance to the room, which we tried to compliment with soft candlelight on the evening of our wedding.

The country vibe of the venue appealed to our easy going nature of a couple and brought an element of timelessness to our day. We absolutely loved our venue and some guests stayed over to share the special night with us at the Hertford.

Wedding Elements

We wanted a minimalist decor reception with simple, but elegant decor. We opted for blush pink roses and greenery to bring colour to our all - white venue. Hundreds of candles created a romantic atmosphere and an ambiance perfect for an evening centered around love, good friends and family.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

My husband opted for the classic black tux with crisp white shirts for himself and his groomsmen. Their look was timeless.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

I wanted to keep tradition by having matching bridesmaids dresses, as well as letting my bridesmaids' individuality shine through. I decided to have my bridesmaids' skirts made in a charcoal grey, to compliment their blush pink bouquets and decided to let my bridesmaids choose their own tops to match their skirts. My bridesmaids all looked absolutely beautiful and elegant on my special day.

Marriage Officer

Our Marriage officer was Johann Cloete. He was absolutely wonderful and made our guests laugh on more than one occasion!

My Captured Moments

We were privileged to have Daniel West, a multiple award winning photographer, to capture our wedding day.

Initially, when looking for a wedding photographer, we struggled to connect with the work of some photographers, but when we came across Daniel’s portfolio, we were absolutely blown away by his creativeness and ability to capture emotion as perfectly as he does.

Daniel is a photographic genius! His photographs are not just pictures capturing memories, but are works of art.

We were lucky enough to have Daniel capture our engagement photos which were absolutely beautiful and we were so excited to see our wedding photos. When we got our wedding pictures, we were absolutely blown away by how magnificently Daniel was able to capture the emotion of our special day.

His work speaks for itself and we would highly recommend Daniel West Wedding Photography to any couple looking for a photographer that exudes professionalism and produces works of art, all while capturing your priceless memories.

We are ever grateful we had Daniel as our photographer.

We did also have a photo booth at our wedding, which our guests thoroughly enjoyed. We did not use a supplier for this though and opted to provide the booth and props ourselves.

The Wedding Planner

We didn't have an official wedding co-coordinator as we tried to keep costs down.

nevertheless, there were many special people who put a lot of effort into making sure everything was perfect for our special day.

These people were my mom, mom-in-law, my wonderful gran, my beautiful bridesmaids, and of course my husband who kept me calm and was a great support through the whole process. I think he learnt the phrase "happy wife, happy life" well before we actually tied the knot. I could never have asked for a better support system throughout the process.

Wedding Transport

We opted for a venue which had a chapel on the same premises. We didn't require any transportation on the day.

Food & Cake

We got married at the Hertford Hotel in Laseria. A magnificent venue which was everything I had envisioned for my big day. The venue prepared an exciting 3 course meal, which every guest complimented us on after the wedding. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Compliments to the Chef at The Hertford!

Our cake was made by JP Schulz of J's Cakes and Catering. We wanted something modern, a "naked" cake as they call them, as I'm not fond of icing. We had a simple design in mind, elegant, clean and classy, which was everything we got in our cake. The bottom tier was a vanilla sponge with a delicious chocolate mousse filling, followed by a tier of carrot cake with a cream cheese filling. The third tier was a vanilla sponge with a caramel filling and the last tier was a special one, an ombre of pink vanilla spongecake, which looked amazing in the photos of the cake shot. Each layer was magnificently prepared, and beautifully put together, not to mention tasty! J's Cakes are amazing and I would definitely recommend his cakes to anyone looking for an awe-inspiring wedding cake!

Wedding Stationery

We designed our own stationery. We wanted a classic and elegant design. Our menus were white with a splash of blush pink which brought a pop of colour to our all-white table settings.

The Reception and Entertainment

Our DJ made our wedding the best party ever! Our dancefloor was constantly buzzing with laughter and dancing and our guests all enjoyed every second of the dancefloor being open. The DJ was so brilliant that the party could've gone on all night if we had the venue longer! Big shout out to Perfect Tone DJ's!!
