My husband and I got married separately. That sounds strange but let me elaborate. We are both Muslim so we had a religious ceremony. My then fiancee arrived at the Mosque with witnesses. My dad was also there as my representative. The representative acts in the bride's behalf. The night before the wedding, my dad asked me if I consent to the marriage. During the religious ceremony, the marriage contract was signed and we were married.
Perhaps the most touching moment for me was seeing my husband for the first time. Our photographer was amazing and he set it up where Juwaid was facing away from me and I touched him on the shoulder and he turned around and saw me. I will cherish the look in his eyes. He was both emotional and in awe at the same time
It was very special having our loved ones to be a part of our day. The reaction of our loved ones when we entered the venue will forever be imprinted in our memories.
We went to Protea Fire and Ice Hotel at Melrose Arch. They were very accommodating when we requested to do our couple photoshoot at the hotel. Just make sure that you ask their permission first or your photographer will probably be asked to leave the premises.
The wedding look was rose gold and elegant with a touch of vintage and each service provider was amazing in helping me achieve my dream.
I sourced many service providers on Instagram and Facebook. Its really helpful to view their work online and see if their work inspires your vision of what you want for your wedding day

The religious ceremony was at the Houghton Mosque
The reception was held at Calistos Rosebank. It was the perfect venue for our 30 guests. We wanted a small and intimate wedding
We decided to source the decor and flowers ourselves. The mirror flower vases was from Osbro in Fordsburg. Fordsburg is one of the best kept secrets in Johannesburg. You can find almost anything there. The other decor items such as the table runners, napkins, straws and champagne bucket was from Sandton City
We knew we wanted an exceptional and unconventional photographer and Wynand was certainly that and more. He advised us based on his experience and I'm glad that we took his advice as he did not steer us wrong.
Wynand knew that it was important to us that we had a contemporary couple photoshoot. We suggested somewhere in Sandton as the buildings are absolutely stunning as a background. He scouted various locations to find the perfect one which ended up being the Sandton City rooftop parking.
Wynand took initiative and emailed Sandton City management to get their permission and they gave it. Luckily he did that because five minutes into our photoshoot, a Sandton City security guard informed us that we are not allowed to be there without permission. We showed him our confirmation email and the rest of the day went off without a hitch

The food was prepared by Calistos Rosebank. We did not want a traditional wedding cake so we opted for a dessert platter also provided by Calistos. Everything was absolutely delicious and the waiters were attentive. The owner and manager of Calisto Rosebank suggested that we do sharing platters instead of plated meals and it was the best decision. Everyone got to sample everything and there was definitely no food envy at our wedding!
