Magical Moments

The first memory and highlight that I can clearly remember is once everything had been finished in terms of make-up and hair, dress and shoes fitted, last sprits of perfume sprayed and my father walked through the door to fetch me. In a moment so special it will be carved into my memories forever, my father started crying upon seeing me for the first time on the day and immediately made me tear up. As he embraced me and held me like it would be our last hug, it dawned on both of us that I was now a woman, about to marry a man with whom I would spend the rest of my life. I was properly leaving the proverbial nest and his little girl had grown into a lady, a lady in a wedding dress.

My next highlights are quite hard to pin down as the day just started running away with me after I left the bridal room. I remember getting onto the horse carriage that escorted my father and me past the chapel and to the start of the isle, it was there where I suddenly became very aware of my racing heart and heavy breathing. I had to take a second just to calm down as I was about to fulfil my dream of walking down the isle and I wanted to take it all in, the 11 year old girl inside of me had to have her moment as well. Another memorable moment came after the service, at the reception, when it was time for our first dance. My husband and I had decided not to prepare a dance or go for training prior to the wedding as we thought a simple one-two-one-two would do the trick. Two days before the wedding, we decided to give it a quick practice run just to see how it feels and quickly realised we need something just to liven it up a little, just something for the photos as well. It wasn't even 2 minutes and we had already practiced and perfected a spin and dip, perfectly cued to the song we had chosen for the dance. Back tot he wedding- it was time for our first dance and we were confident in our improvised spin and dip, however, we had never taken into account the size of the dress or my heels. I tried to remain calm and just dance like we practiced(once). The song started, we walked towards each other in a slow, suspenseful manor. We joined in the middle and started dancing to the tempo of an acoustic version of Mirrors by Justin Timberlake, as we got to the spin and dip I simply trusted that it would go according to plan and that I wouldn't fall in front of all our guests. As 138 guests are my witness, It went down without a hitch and before I knew it, my husband had dipped me, looked into my eyes and planted a kiss on my lips in a moment frozen in time. Goosebumps, I tell you! It is also something I had dreamt of since I was a little girl and here it was happening in front of all my loved ones.

I could probably go on and on about my highlights and memorable moments, but these have to be my most memorable as I remember them clearly, and remember planning them out as a wishful little girl who had read and watched fairytales of princesses getting their happy ever afters. I was getting my happy ever after, with the King giving away his princess, and Prince Charming sweeping her off her feet.

The Honeymoon

Yes, we were able to get away to Sun City for a couple of days, just to replenish ourselves and get some well deserved rest, as well as catch up on eating(which we had skimped on in the days leading up, as nerves tend to put a stop to any appetite). Hopefully next year we will be able to do an overseas honeymoon, should we save up enough in time. We were looking at Spain for a unique and romantic experience.

My Special Day

I would definitely describe my wedding look as a classic fairytale look. My hair was curled and brushed out to make for a more natural hairstyle with curls. My wedding dress was a champagne colour with the most beautiful details on the top and became very soft and romantic leading to the skirt. I wore nude shoes that I had from a previous dance. For my jewelry I wore one of my moms necklaces and my maid of honour gave me a beautiful tennis bracelet.

The Venue

We got married at Oakfield Farm. Our guests chose to stay at nearby guesthouses that better suited their budgets. Oakfield Farm does, however, have facilities available should anyone choose to stay the night.

Oakfield Farm – Wedding & Function Venue

This acclaimed, multi award winning venue is where romance, beauty, old fashioned hospitality and excellence come together a mere 30 minutes from Sandton and Centurion.

Wedding Elements

I wanted my décor to be very simple and romantic. My flowers were proteas and I had white and light pink roses added with them. The table setting was middles mirror plates with a vase in the middle with the flowers and a beautiful pearl string draped down onto the table and two large vases on either side with a floating candle in them. The entire venue was draped with fairy lights which I loved!

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom and groomsmen wore navy suits, with navy ties and brown leather shoes. They all got their suits from different places and surprising enough the colours of the navy were exactly the same.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore dusky pink infinity dresses, I saw a few Pinterest ideas of infinity dresses and thought it is such a lovely idea and the girls were able to choose however they wanted to wear them!

Marriage Officer

Our marriage officer was Pastor Ed Ramsami. He was amazing, he had such a lovely sense of humour and was able to keep the overall feeling of the service light and cheerful, which is exactly what we wanted. We also enjoyed that he was able to make the guests laugh and feel welcome and part of the service.

Food & Cake

The food preparation was done by oakfield farm and the person who made my cake was done by the cake brothers.

The Reception and Entertainment

We did not take dance lessons. We did our own little practice to our first dance song in my parents living room! We had a DJ, which was Blast entertainment who did our music on the night.
