How did your love story begin?

I met Brett at a music festival and it was love at first sight, except Brett lived in Sweden. He had 2 weeks left in SA from the day we met and after that day we spent every single day together. It was two weeks straight out of a romance novel as you can tell from our first date. Brett swept me off my feet with his whimsical, romantic nature and I tried very hard not to give in. After two weeks had come to an end he left on a plane back to Sweden and in memory of our time together I gave him my feather earring to keep. We spoke almost everyday but reality slowly started to set in that it was just never going to work living on opposite ends of the earth, and so we called it quits.

This was probably one of the hardest things for both of us. Roughly two months had past and there was not a day I didn't think him. During this time, I was training for the Argus and I got a message from Brett out of the blue asking if we could Skype that afternoon. I told him I would be training then and he asked me to skip the training just for this day. Obviously I had no problem with that. I waited quite a long time for the Skype call to start and while I was waiting I heard a knock on my front door. Not thinking of it, I opened the door and on my gate hung the feather earring I gave Brett. He had moved to Cape Town and from this day the rest was history and we are getting married!

Tell us all about the proposal.

On our first date! Brett took me for a sunset beach picnic on clifton 2nd where he pulled out all the stops. A bottle of Diemersfontien Pinotage (my fav) followed by backgammon and sushi. When the sun had set Brett pulled out a pack of candles and lit a circle around us. When I had thought the date was done, Brett suggested to look at the city lights on Table mountain. We drove up to the mountain and Brett played the XX album (a super romantic band) where he danced under the stars with me to end off the date.

When Brett was ready to pop the question he remembered that I would always say our first date together was one of the most magical days we have ever shared together. So he decided re-enacting our very first date, 6 years later, from start to finish, except this time it ended with him on one knee asking for my hand in marriage <3

Magical Moments

Wow, where do I even begin. The entire weekend was filled with so many special moments that it was unbelievably overwhelming. But these are my absolute favorite moments:

The Friday night we had a girls pamper party and spent the night reminiscing with my beautiful bridesmaid and close family and friends.
The moment my dad walked in the room to come get me, he took one look at me and burst into tears
Walking down the isle and waiting for my soon to be husband to turn around and see me, he too burst into tears as our eyes met and so did I.
My absolute favorite moment of the entire day was walking into the candle lit, glass dinning room and being welcomed as Mr & Mrs Kirsten, that was the best feeling in the entire world!

The Honeymoon

We went on a little mini moon to Namibia which wasn't that little after all. Namibia is something so magical and the landscape is something you have never seen before. This little African paradise has become one of our favorite places and we will be back in a heart beat!

My Special Day

My wedding theme was a 'Bohemian Opulence' setting

I had two wedding dresses:
I wanted a very sexy but sophisticated dress for my ceremony, so I designed a figure hugging, low plunge neck, long sleeved gown that was sequence embroided mesh. The entire dress sparkled in the light from head to toe. Chanelle Cindy Bridal made my dress for me.
My boho party dress was non traditional taking inspiration from my bohemian theme I created a two piece skirt and crop top full of fringing and lace up details. The skirt had a front slit allowing me room to dance all night long. I sewed this dress up the week of my wedding day.
My make up was done by Vanessa Kroeger and I went for a dark smokey eye and natural lip
My hair was done by Jayde Roxy who is the queen of boho waves, I have my hair long and wavy.
My shoes were boots from The Shoe Lady to match my bohemian theme
I chose to only wear beautiful statement earrings that had moon and stars on them

The Venue

We got married at the most beautiful wedding venue in South Africa in my opinion, Die Woud. Leandre was our wedding coordinator and we were just absolutely blown away by her service and her team. We feel like we walk away from our wedding with a new friend. From the second you meet them they feel like family.

Our family and bridal party stayed at Barton Villa's & Vinyards where we hired out all 5 Villas for the weekend.

My Captured Moments

Grace Charlotte Photography was our photographer who captured our wedding day better than we could have ever imagined. She is the most beautiful person and we just adore her to bits.

Our wedding videographers were Popped Red Balloon, they are the most incredible couple who make you feel so special and comfortable, if you have seen our wedding video you will understand why I say no words can describe their talent and how well they captured our wedding day.
