Magical Moments

One of the most precious memories happened in church. We were all done with the ceremony and just before we were announced as Mr and Mrs Herbst, my cousin (who was our organist), was suppose to play a piece on the organ but instead he and my mother made plans with a friend (who sings like an angel) to sing for us in church. So as I was waiting for the organ to start to play a back track started instead. I was looking up to the organ trying to make eye contact with my cousin when I heard her voice. As I turned around and saw her walking in I couldn't stop the tears. The song was so fitting and alot of guests had tears of joy. It was such a special moment and a memory I will always treasure.

The Honeymoon

Yes, we had a lovely honeymoon. We went to different places alongside the Garden Route. Visiting elephants, ziplining, picnics and visiting all the little places like map of Africa.

Wedding Gallery

My Special Day

We didn't have a specific theme for the wedding, we just wanted it to be filled with texture. The colours we worked with were green and pink with touches of white and gold. The table were decorated with 2 different flower designs. One where the flowers formed the table runners and the other featuring the glass and candles. The main flowers we used were king proteas (pink and white) with complementary flowers such as tulips, roses, lilies and desert roses. We rented cherry blossom trees that were placed throughout the venue with buckets of flowers sitting at the bottom. The roof was decorated with pennygum and fairy berries. The floor was covered with white feathers.

For my hair and make-up I had the best team and people I trusted wholeheartedly. I just gave them a idea and they immediately knew how to make it happen. I told the hairdresser I wanted something pulled back but soft and the make-up artist I just said please incorporate our wedding colour, so she went for a soft pink and it looked stunning.

My wedding dress I bought from Elegant Flair in Paarl and it was so comfortable and flowy. It was imported from India. So the top part had loads of beads sewed on by hand. It made me feel like a lady. I had golden glitter heels with a peep toe.

As for accessories, I had a set of cubic zirconia earings and bracelet. My garter was made by my mother-in-law.

The Venue

We got married in the church of Riebeeck Kasteel and the ceremony was held at Delsma were some of the guests stayed for the night. It was one of the reasons we chose the venue, that people could sleep on the premises if they wanted to and they pride themselves on their food and yes it was delicious!

My Bridal Beauty Regime

So I drank a lot of water and skipped rope. Once a month I went for a facial, waxed my eyebrows and coloured my lashes. About 3 days before the wedding I went for a manicure and pedicure and got a gel overlay for my hands and feet. I decided on a bit of colour, pink for my hands and charcoal for my toes.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom wore a 3 piece charcoal suit with a pink shirt and black shoes. His tie was charcoal. The groomsmen wore a charcoal waistcoat and pants with a white shirt, pink tie and black shoes. They had badges in the shape of a protea and green and pink ribbon which said "groom" or "groomsman".

Beautiful Bridesmaids

My 2 bridesmaids were my 2 best friends. The one was pregnant, so a dress from the shop wouldn't have worked. So we bought them green meterial in Cape Town and I told them they could each decide how they wanted their dress to look like because I think it is unpractical to let them buy something, only to wear it once. I only asked for the dresses to be full length. So they asked a local dressmaker from Wellington to make the dresses for them and they looked absolutely gorgeous in them!

Marriage Officer

We asked the minister of the Dutch Reformed church in Clanwilliam to marry us.

My Captured Moments

I had the most relaxed team, who made me feel so special every step of the way. My wedding photographer was Nelis Engelbrecht from Nelis Engelbrecht photography. A great down to earth guy always ready for a laugh and super motivated to get that perfect shot of you. The package we chose, came with a photo corner. He brought all the props needed. Our videographer were a husband and wife team from moments on film and they were very easy going people always ready to lend a hand and very professional. They are very willing to go the extra mile for their clients.

The Wedding Planner

Yes, my cousin is the owner of Bazeru Events and as a wedding gift he helped plan the wedding, played the organ and did all of the decor.

Wedding Transport

My husband got referred to a guy who was very reasonable with his prices. He drove us everywhere we wanted to go and only asked a once off fee. There was no time limit. We drove in a charcoal Chevrolet De Ville.

Food & Cake

My brother-in-law is a baker and as a wedding gift, he made our cake. It was a four layer chocolate ganache cake, decorated in cream and gold topped with a white protea made out of sugar.

The food and canapés was made by Delsma Farm and it was delicious!

Wedding Stationery

We had a wedding newspaper which had all the information for the day. Seating chart, menu, songs to sing in church, the story of how we met, fun facts of the wedding couple, and a crossword puzzle. We also had custome made wine lables. All of this was designed by Elizabeth from Busy Lizzy Creations.

The Reception and Entertainment

We had a lovely party with music suiting old and young. Everyone enjoyed themselves till the early morning hours! Our music, sound and lighting were done by DJ Dirkie. He also made music during the pre-drinks outside in the garden. He has a real feel for the crowd and knows how to keep the party going.

We opened the dancefloor with the song titled "second hand heart" and during the song most of the guests joined in and danced with. We didn't go for any dance lessons, just good old fashioned "vasdans".
