Magical Moments

We got married on 18 March 2017 at the beautiful Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Free State. It was a fairytale wedding! We promised faith to each other in the spectacular poplar forest, also known as the fairy bush. Family and friends were involved since day one as we had the privilege of making and decorating the whole wedding ourselves. It was a weekend wedding which also gave family and friends from far away the opportunity to spend time together and recap even before the big day.

Moolmanshoek is a horse farm and our guests were entertained not only by the astonishing beauty of nature, but also by the amazing horse run of 100 + horses! Everything from the start to the end at 3AM (my husband and I are diehards like that) was absolutely perfect! We were so lucky and blessed to have such an amazing dream come true wedding!!

My Special Day

I went for a vintage/modern and classy look. My dress was made by the excellent Julie Wedderburn from Bloemfontein. It consisted of a plain yet beautiful sleek fitting dress and a fuller skirt with pockets over it. I took off the skirt during our first dance. I decided on this dress as I really loved both a tight fitting and a big cinderella dress and found it difficult to choose between them, thus I improvised to get both!
My hair was done by the skilled Ilse du Preez who also does the hair in Glam Guru from time to time. My makeup was done by the brilliant Karlé Potgieter, also from Bloemfontein.
I wore personally decorated white Vans sneakers that suited the venue (being outdoors and in the veld) perfectly. During the reception, I put on cute princess like flats with a silver bow at the front.
I wore a backless strapless body suite lingerie, white.
My husband gave me infinity earrings and a bracelet as a wedding gift. I also had a few flowers in my hear.

The Venue

We got married at Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Free State. Yes, some of the guests came the Friday already and stayed on the farm or in Rosendal or Ficksburg, the closest towns to the farm.

My Bridal Beauty Regime

I found myself eating more sweets before the wedding. I couldn't help it, I don't know why. Luckily I didn't gain any weight, although we joked about the probability a lot. I did have my teeth whitened about three months prior to the wedding.

Wedding Elements

One of the most beautiful parts of our wedding was the fact that we didn't rent anything except glasses. We did everything ourselves. My mom made the napkins and table cloths. These were white napkins, and champagne coloured runners that went over the wooden tables. My mother in law and grandmother in law did all the flower arrangements. We had roses, proteas and lilies and "loof". I ordered candles from the Mangaung Maximum Security Prison. These were white and varied in sizes. Our grandfather provided almost all the wooden furniture and additional accessories such as our kneeling bench, stands for the candles as well as our wedding favours which were engraved wooden cheese cutting boards. We rented fairy lights.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom wore a tailored suit which he had made in Thailand I think. The groomsmen wore brown pants, white shirts, wooden bow ties (made by grandpa), and leather crossbars with our initials ironed into the back.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

My bridesmaids wore mint skirts with white shirts tucked into them and the other two wore salmon dresses. They all had flower crowns and they looked like fairies/angels.

Marriage Officer

Ds. Neels de Kock from Ficksburg.

The Wedding Planner

No. Only my dearest family and friends.

Wedding Transport

We were taken to the poplar bush by horse cart.

Food & Cake

The lovely hostess and owner of Moolmanshoek venue, Mafie Nel, made both the food and cake.

Wedding Stationery

Our stationary were digitalised. My brother, Adriaan Nel from Nellen Technologies designed a website for us. We used Happily Ever After Animations to do our Save the Date cartoon video. We designed our invitations ourselves with an invitation creator online.

The Reception and Entertainment

We went for eight dance lessons with Philip Davel from D2 Dance Studio in Bloemfontein. We shortened and combined some of our favourite songs to perform a fun dance that included intimate, funny, tango, waltz, close, funny moments. Our DJ was Clinton from Echo Sounds.
