Esther and Carl

Tell us your love story, how did it all begin?

How we met and fell in love: we met each other at a running club at university and often found ourselves running in the same training group and later both joined the club committee. After a club camp in Hermanus, there was a spark... And 5 years later we are still together. We still run and hike together, often opting for peace and quiet outdoors.

How did he propose?

"will you marry me" written with chalk on the driveway outside Esther's house.

How did you find the planning process? Did you make use of

20 months to plan, so plenty of time. Lots of help from family and countless emails to the various organizers. The majority of the planning was completed a few months ahead of time which lessened the stress and minimized things that could go wrong. We also had enough time to search for the perfect venue. We did make use of

Where did you draw your planning inspiration from?

We got a lot of ideas from Pinterest, Sa Weddings, books and wedding websites such as Confetti Daydreams.

What was the most memorable and special part of your wedding day?

Seeing my beautiful bride walk down the isle and handing over rings once our vows were said
the whole wedding was memorable and special because we shared it with all of our loved ones

What was your wedding theme and why did you choose it?

Navy blue (favorite colour) and white/gold. Ive always loved the colour navy and then decided to add the gold to match with it.

What was the inspiration behind your wedding dress as well as the bridesmaids' dresses?

I wanted a very flowy wedding dress but elegant. I also didnt want to buy my wedding dress so we went to Besters Bridal in Knysna where they made the dress specially for me and I could rent it. They were amazing.

Do you have a specific reason why you chose the décor and flowers?

I wanted to create a romantic atmosphere with my decor and flowers so choosing orchids and roses and vases with candles in them created the correct feel for the wedding.

Did you incorporate any DIY items?

Pre drinks, home made cocktails and the table seating plan!

What song did you choose for your opening dance and why?

Coldplay, Unbroken. We found it to be a good first dance song for a Rumba :)

What is your favourite, will-never-forget memory of your big day?

My mother and I sharing a happy tear before the wedding, when I saw my soon to be husband at the end of the isle and the amazing speeches our family members shared.

Any advice for other brides-to-be/grooms-to-be who are busy planning their big day?

Plan ahead, do exactly what your bride asks of you and on time...
Keep it simple ask for help and dont stress too much things will work out.

Did you go on honeymoon and if so, where did you go?

De Oude Meuel resort outside Oudshoorn and road trip Route 62 to Cape Town and on to Kleinboschkloof in Clanwilliam, following the length of the Langberg and Cederberg mountain ranges.
