Tarryn P & Matt N

Getting married on Feb 4, 2027 in Western Cape

How did your love story begin?

We met in 2019 in a bar in London. We got chatting, swapped numbers and, to my surprise, Matt actually texted me the very next day. After a few days of messaging (and me attempting to flirt with what I’d now describe as some pretty questionable banter), we then went on our first date.

That first date was so easy. We talked for hours, laughed a lot and neither of us wanted the evening to end. One date quickly turned into another, and before long we were pretty much inseparable.

Since then, we’ve built a life together. We bought our first home, adopted our son Chouby who is a British long hair cat, and have shared plenty of adventures along the way. Although I’d imagined Chouby would be my little shadow, he had other ideas and decided Matt was his favourite person from day one!

I always knew with my luck that I’d hit the jackpot before I turned 30. In my mind it was going to be the lottery but the jackpot was actually Matt, who I met just 2 weeks before I turned 30.

Looking back, it’s funny to think that such a random meeting in a busy London bar led us here. Sometimes the best things really do happen when you’re least expecting them.

Tell us all about the proposal.

Matt proposed during a trip to Cape Town, my hometown, which made the whole moment even more special.

He’d apparently spent most of the holiday stressing about carrying the ring around with him, waiting for the perfect moment. He knew he wanted to propose in Camps Bay because it’s our favourite place, so on the way to dinner he suggested we stop at one of the lookout points along Camps Bay Drive to watch the sunset. Knowing how much I love a sunset photo, I happily agreed and thought nothing of it when he asked a passer-by if they could take a picture of us.

What I didn’t know was that he’d actually asked them to record a video instead.

The moment he handed over the phone, he turned to me, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was completely caught off guard and had absolutely no idea what was happening. It was the most incredible surprise, and having it happen in my hometown, in a place that means so much to both of us, made it even more unforgettable.

Of course, I said yes. Watching the video back now is so special because it captured every genuine reaction and emotion from one of the happiest moments of our lives.
