Choose your venue

Because there are endless picture-perfect wedding venues all over the country, you might think you have equally as endless time to book one. Think again! Wedding venues are sometimes booked as far as 2 years in advance, but don’t panic, most venues can be booked within an eight-month to one-year lead-time. Bookings Manager at Zevenwacht Wine Estate, Annette advises, “ At least one year for a summer wedding!” So rather than leaving your venue to the last minute, book it now so it’s done and dusted. Choosing your venue first will also help you decide on details like colours, styles and accessories that match your setting.

Appoint your bridesmaids

This might be one of the hardest decisions you will have to make regarding your wedding because, with the odd exception to the rule, it is not the norm to have all 25 of your closest girlfriends as the leading ladies on your special day. As much as you wish you could include them all, an average of about 5 (give or take) is generally the custom. The benefit of choosing your bride tribe early is that you’ll have them there with you every step of the way – from choosing your dress to cake tastings to DIY party-favour packaging over lunch and bubbly!

Finalize your guest list

While, again, this is easier said than done, it is best to confirm your guest list as soon as possible. Once you have a number, it takes the guesswork out of orders and planning. The size of your wedding will not only help decipher important factors like venue, but it will also help you properly allocate your budget to other costs such as invitations, flowers, catering etc.

Once the above three steps have been put in place, the fun may begin! Your venue will be set, your numbers finalized, and your favourite females will be right by your side to help with the exciting things like dresses, décor, food and wine-tastings!
