Magical Moments

There are so many memorable moments of the day! Having my two brothers walk me down aisle was so special and felt like my dad was right there with us. Even though many of our close family and friends couldn't make it, having them share it with us on live stream and the beautiful messages they sent were so special. Having my family from Pretoria there was truly special, my ouma has been my role model and my rock for my whole life, I am so glad she was there on the day and having her and Dylan's ouma sign as witnesses was truly special! My favourite moment was right before I was supposed to walk down they aisle, I was so nervous (not to get married but to talk in front of people!), the lovely Janice and Tracy from Trunk Events told me random facts and ran to get me a beer and my brothers were so incredibly sweet and were making jokes to distract me. Of course the best part was walking right to Dylan feeling completely calm and also very excited as my brothers hugged me and we walked together to the ceremony. My maid of honour (also known as my wife haha) helping me put on the veil and having my gorgeous bridesmaids and best friends there to make jokes and have a good time was so wonderful! And of course, the party, even though lock-down regulations had us stop at 9pm, our friends and family did not disappoint and we had such an amazing time, it felt like there 200 people in the room even though we were like 45!

The Honeymoon

Yes, just as strict lock-down hit us again! We had a short mini honeymoon. We went to Botlierskop Private Game Reserve for 3 days, and it was so wonderful! The accommodation, the food, the spa, the game drives! Covid had a silver lining here as we were in our own little bubble and hardly interacted with anyone, which was so lovely. We also went to Knysna to the Forest Valley Cottages, which were beautiful and having a hot-tub on the balcony overlooking the beautiful Knysna scenery was truly amazing!

My Special Day

I wanted to look and feel like a queen from Grimms Brother faerietale and Sadie Bosworth made my dream come true by creating my beautiful dress! It included beautiful floral embroidery in deep reds, purples and greens, high cuffs with button details, sheer slightly puffed sleeves and of course pockets! The most important thing about the dress was that she sewed little blue hearts cut from my and Dylan's dad's shirts into each pocket, so I could reach for them when I needed them. The faerietale was only made possible by my real-life (faerie)godmother, who unfortunately couldn't be there physically on the day but made sure I had the dress of my dreams! The lovely Taryn from TMS Makeup completed the look by creating a dramatic golden smokey eyes and dark lips with romantic pinned up hair. My lipstick has a story to it, it was the incredible Velvet Midnight and Jazz lipsticks created by Lisa Eldrige. I was one of those people who signed up for the pre-order and got them as soon as the site when live! I got them especially for my graduation and for the wedding and then forgot them at home! My awesome step-mother-in-law was kind enough to drive all the way to find the spare key for our apartment and go get them for me!

I wanted red shoes to match the mood and as a nod to The Wizard of Oz. My veil was from the lovely Once Worn Bridal and the getting ready gowns and my garter was made by Bulu. The bridesmaids and my jewellery was bought from Shop Mañana. Their earrings were stars and mine were moons and white baguette drop earrings to match my beautiful art deco engagement ring which was designed and made by Lorean Jewellery. I wanted to wear my engagement ring as a wedding ring but did not want to add any bands to it so Dylan and I had signet rings made and designed by Mul Jewellery for the wedding ceremony. Mine had a moon and 2 bats (as Halloween is my favourite day - and Dylan proposed on Halloween) and Dylan's had two skeletons walking into an archway together.

The Venue

We got married at the gorgeous Belair Pavilion in Paarl, our bridal party, close friends and family stayed on the venue in beautiful rooms and other guests stayed in accommodation close by.

Wedding Elements

We wanted minimalist and sophisticated décor in golds, dark reds, purples, greens and blacks/greys. The incredible Zahn from Bulb Flowers met with us and immediately understood what we wanted. We asked her to highlight flowers that normally get ignored (not just roses) and she delivered! The décor look so beautiful. She had different size vases and candles were placed on gold plates (which I originally found at Mr. Price Home and Zahn supplemented them). The Trunk Event team assisted with the set up and with table numbers, gift box and cake plinth, as well as having our name cards and seating chart printed by City Print (I designed these myself - and really enjoyed it!). The furniture, crockery and cutlery were all included in the venue from Belair, we opted to add outside furniture for the pre-drinks and the Costa Nova plates, which were also provided by Belair. Lighting for the dancefloor was provided by the Party Technician.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

Dylan found his suit (after much searching) at Trenery and had it tailored at Tidy Tuc's and his tie is from Woolworths. The groomsmen wore dark charcoal suits and their ties were from Markhams . Zahn from Bulb flowers made the boutonnieres.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

The most important thing for me was that the bridesmaids felt at their most gorgeous! We decided the easiest way to make sure we had something that everyone felt comfortable in was to get the infinity style dresses. After colour matching everyone's skin tones we decided the deep wine red was most flattering and matched the wedding themes. These were purchased from Bridal Alchemy (I even got one for myself!). Their hair and make-up was done by TMA Make Up as well, and can I just say how absolutely stunning they looked!
Also our incredible flower-girl, Cami, made her own dress (so talented!) and her flower crown was made by Bulb Flowers.

Their hair was done by the talented and truly lovely Jaqui Viljoen and their makeup was done by Taryn of TMS makeup! We were so hesitant to get someone to do our hair and makeup because often it can look over-done but Jaqui and Taryn were so amazing and are such lovely people!

The Wedding Planner

Yes!! The most wonderful planner and team that exist in my opinion! Tracy and Team from Trunk Events were incredibly helpful leading up to the wedding, they suggested all our service providers, worked within our budget, had great recommendations and tips. Trunk Events, together with Fiona and the team of Belair ensured the day went flawlessly! I do not have enough words to say how grateful and how wonderful they are!

Food & Cake

The wonderful Niel van Zyl of Concept Food catering. He was so helpful and it was so easy to decide on a menu and he made sure we kept to our budget. The tasting was delicious and everyone at the wedding was raving about how delicious the canapes and food was! Most importantly, I am a huge lover of cheesecake (and luckily so is Dylan), so in lieu of traditional wedding cake we had 4 different cheesecakes (Caramel, Bar One, New York and Nougat & Pistachio) also made by Concept Food catering and they were incredible!!

Wedding Stationery

I love being creative when I can so I designed all our invites/save the dates and stationary and we had them printed through City Print which was organised by Trunk Events.

The Reception and Entertainment

The reception was a giant party and we had the most fun! We took months deciding on our first song and we ended up choosing the song from one of our favourite movies and what we listen to when we cook together (Pete Rodriguez - I Like It Like That). Dylan is not a dancer so we kind of just winged it and had fun and then our friends and family joined us. Our sound and lighting for the ceremony and reception was done by The Party Technician and we live streamed the ceremony with help from Marc Wyllie Production.

Part of the fun of not finding our "first song" is that we could use the other ones we loved throughout the day. Both our dads were huge Metallica fans and so are we, so we wanted to include that (Metallica at a wedding sounds odd I know) so we had the flower girls and bridesmaids walk down to the violin version of Nothing Else Matters (by Apocalyptica) and I walked down to the beginning of Unforgiven III, which was beautiful. Dylan and the boys walked down the aisle to Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin. The post-ceremony song was Can't Take my Eyes off You, the Muse version, and our walk-out song after signing the register was Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. Our entrance song after photo's and cutting the cake was I Was Made for Loving You by Kiss and we were very happy with all our choices!
