Understated Elegance. Romantic. Pure Magic.
It was the perfect summer wedding which made you feel like you stepped into the Italian country side from the moment you entered the venue.
Filipe and I were very calm leading up to the wedding and so at ease the whole day.
That energy was felt and reciprocated by our guests which made the event a blast and one to remember!
One of the highlights would be the dance-off we held for the single men to get the garter. We wanted to change things up a bit. We chose songs to set the mood, some old favourites that everyone loves and split the group in two to battle it out. We held 3 rounds and our guests loved it. Filipe and I chose the first two rounds and the winner was selected by the guests in one massive roar! We feel as though it got everyone into the party mood as we opened the dance floor after that as the more formal part of the evening had ended. People still talk about it today.
We will be going on Honeymoon to Italy in September 2019. We weren't intentionally trying to match our wedding to the Italian theme, it all seemed to fall into place that way.
We have a "dream-come-true" itinerary that we personally planned - where we will first travel to the north to Riccione in order to watch the MotoGP (my hubby's ultimate bucket list item).
From there we will be spending a few nights in Rome, taking-in all the historical sights and enjoying the cuisine the city has to offer; followed by spending a lot of our holiday in the romantic town of Positano. Here we will also be celebrating my husband's 40th birthday. To finish our trip we will spend a night in Napoli where we will visit the famously preserved town of Pompeii.
We feel very blessed to be able to go away on this trip.
Let's start with the dress. I followed a few of my favourite dress designers for a while and when I found out that one Italian designer was sold locally out of Vonve' Bridal - I immediately made a booking. I hadn't gone for any other fittings, my dress was the third I tried on and I was sold. I chose the Lina Dress from Milla Nova. With the champagne satin topped with white lace and Swarovski detailing, I couldn't imagine another dress for the day.
I found shoes from Aldo to match and earrings from Vonve' that felt like it was made for my dress. I didn't plan on other accessories but Filipe surprised me with a rose gold Swarovski bracelet to match my rings, brought by my bridesmaid, right before I walked down the aisle.
I wanted soft, loose curls with a little bit slightly pulled back. My bridesmaid, Bianca, graciously did my hair as a favour as well as curled the other girls hair and we used pins from Lovisa that had a similar design to my dress to tie my whole outfit together.
Last, but not least, my make up - Gina Myers was our make-up artist- and she did a phenomenal job!
The girls had warm smokey eyes and had a bronzed glow.
I also wanted a more dramatic look with smokey eyes and a dewy finish to my skin to add a more dramatic flair.
We tied the knot at Avianto in Muldersdrift. For those that haven't been there, it feels as though you have stepped into a Tuscan town and romance oozes from the cobblestones.
Some of our guests stayed at the Avianto hotel, where we stayed, and we enjoyed a buffet breakfast in the morning all together.
Our decor was provided by a preferred supplier of Avianto, Event Inspirations.
I initially met with the ladies and discussed the atmosphere I wanted to create rather than the decor stealing the show. My decor was simplistic yet elegant and we saved some of the budget to provide guests with personalised key rings which were their place cards, as well as favours!
I wanted the colour scheme to be white with gold elements, low standing decor, candlelight and a beautiful variety of white flowers such as orchids, roses, tulips and my all-time favourite - Lilies.
I love the soft glow of fairy lights which we also draped around the pillars and included a curtain of them outside on the patio. The whole night glowed and sparkled and it was more than I could have dreamed of.
Our dress-code was formal and nothing looks better than men in fitted suits with bow ties. Right?
Filipe truly looked like the most handsome Mediterranean groom with his off-white tux with black trim and black pants.
His groomsmen complimented him with their black suits and white shirts.
Their outfits were "tied" together with matching black bow ties.
I stumbled across an image on Pinterest which gave me the inspiration for the dresses. With it being a summer wedding and the colour scheme of white and gold, I felt the girls would look magnificent in a warm shimmering gold material to make them feel like the goddesses they are.
I brought the idea to Priscilla who is a designer for her own brand, Ivy Lilly Couture. I wanted the dresses to have the same style from the waist down but for each bridesmaid to choose their design for the top of their dress. Each dress had a slit on the side which made the dresses flow while they walked.
As a small gift from me, I gave each of my bridesmaids gold hoops from Lovisa which also gives a trendy look to a formal dress.
We loved the style of Alexander Smith, his work is romantic and it captures love in it's natural form. It was a natural and easy choice. He made us feel at ease and made us laugh. I feel that it is so important for your photographer to feel comfortable with your photographer as it translates onto the photographs.
Unfortunately, our budget could not allow for a videographer, however, my boss generously gifted us with his own personal media team to allow us to re-live the best day of our lives.
I chose not to have a wedding planner as I luckily have the experience of planning events for my company, so I thoroughly enjoyed planning my own. I tried not to "sweat-the-small-stuff" as I wanted the day to be enjoyed and remembered more than the tiny details that generally go unnoticed.
Avianto does provide you with a venue coordinator to help with the service of the day - which is a bonus.
I arranged the printing through MinuteMan Press in Fourways. I provided them with the template I liked and they made it up for me.
I kept it simple and only provided a menu per guest which also helped to tie in the decor of the table.
We stumbled across our musician / DJ on a Sunday lunch outing to the foundry in Rosebank. He had a magnificent voice accompanied with the sounds of his guitar and although our wedding was a while away, we asked him to play for us on the spot.
Justin Serrao is with YYY Shows and they provided a very professional service for : music in the ceremony, a set by him for the canapé's as well as an added 30 min's just for Filipe and I to hear him. He also knew how to get the party started and followed our suggestions for the music. They also provide the sound and added lights to create an atmosphere.
Filipe and I initially went for some ballroom lessons but in the end we felt that we would spend more time focussing on the moves rather than the moment. We danced to a cover of "You're a sky full of stars" by cold play (which is our favourite band) under our starry night created by the fairy lights.
My father-daughter dance was one that still brings tears to my eyes. We chose a song that is very special to us, "Your Sixteen (You're Beautiful and You're Mine) by Ringo Starr which is a song we used to play together at our house parties. He would be on the piano and I would sing terribly, but it was "our song".
