Magical Moments

Our wedding day was perfect, as the sun came up the day promised to be nothing short of amazing. Blue skies, glowing sunshine and surrounded by family and friends. Oakfields Farm was the perfect set for the magical day we had worked on for so long. We had a few things to do and luckily hubby was on point. He finalized the decor and small add ons we wanted to finish off our day. Never did i think that getting ready could be so stressful. From sewing on the charms to the end of my lace up dress, to having 5 ladies help get it on. the horse that lead the carriage to the ceremony wasn't to keen until he reached the path alongside the chapel and then found his gallop. Walking down the isle and seeing the look on Ruan's face is indescribable. Our message that was delivered by our pastor Darius van der Schyff is something we instill in our marriage daily, it was so relevant and a perfect fit for us as a couple. Cutting our cake in the garden and enjoying a few bites before starting our photo sessions. Our photographers (Phoenix Photography) and videographer (Your Name Here Productions) were accommodating and made the photo sessions fun and very efficient.

As we entered the reception we could feel the love our guests had for us, the joy and happiness they expressed was heart warming. We practiced for months for the perfect first dance and it was just that...PERFECTION!

The food was delicious and a hit with every guest. We couldn't be happier and more satisfied with the chefs delectable dishes.

The Honeymoon

We went on the most amazing honeymoon, planned by Imagine Holidays. We traveled to Dubai, Phuket and Bangkok. Arriving in Dubai 2 days after our magical day and on hubbies birthday, in the blistering heat made our way to the beautiful Millenium Plaza Hotel. We spent our first 4 days of honeymoon exploring the souks, creeks and deserts of Dubai. Adventure at its best whilst on a dessert safari topped off with a traditional desert dinner. On arrival we were treated to a camel ride. Making use of the City Sightseeing bus we covered the modern, new age Dubai as well as Old Dubai, overwhelmed by views of sky scrappers and ancient buildings we adored the beauty before us. We made our way to the top of the world and enjoyed a morning on the 146th and 147th floor of the Burj Khalifa.

After enjoying Dubai we made our way to Phuket,Thailand. We checked into our trendy hotel, The Bloc hotel. Without any time to waste we jumped right into the festivities of Phuket and the infamous Bangla Road. Luckily we are fans of Thai food and didn't stop indulging in as many dishes as we could. The beautiful and perfect trip to Phi Phi islands on the ferry was one we will remember for a long time. The scenic route was definitely something to capture on camera. Meeting a South African couple on the ferry was perfect timing as they shared their experience of Paradise Beach in Pa Tong with us. After hearing about our fellow South Africans experience, we didn't think twice about visiting and the very next day ventured off to Paradise Beach on a scooter. With clear waters, big swings, loungers the size of a double bed and ice cold cocktails, we were definitely in paradise. The eccentric night life and constant hustle and bustle kept us busy for the days we spent in Phuket. Lazing on the beaches throughout the day and making most of the night life was worth every second.

After a very busy week, and with golden tans we set off to Bangkok. We arrived and were taken by surprise at the size of the MBK Shopping centre. Central Bangkok is constantly busy, tuk tuks, taxis and thousands of people rushing to the different formsof transportation was nothing we had seen before. We shopped and shopped and shopped until our feet gave in.

The honeymoon was a magical and memorable experience. One that I would do over and over again.

My Special Day

The wedding look i wanted was elegant and classy. I didn't want something to over the top but also didn't want to be to plain jane. I wanted to be comfortable. My hair was colored and styled by Rizanne DeCastro from Paul James New Redruth. I was so happy with my hair.

The very talented Chantel Nel was my make up artist anddid exactly what I asked her to do. We decided to use colors that related to the wedding, so we went for a soft pink and slightly smokey eye.

My wedding dress was a combination of a few ideas and made by the magnificently talented Candice Firmani who made my moms wedding dress too. Candice literally made the exact dress that i wanted, it was as if she was in my head. The fine details of the lace and the train was perfect. We went together to buy the material and Candice worked on the dress with me checking in every 3-4 weeks for a fitting. I adored my dress!

My earrings were bought by my husband and i lent my aunts bracelet. I didn't want to over do the jewelry so kept it simple but elegant. I had enough detail and bead work on my dress to compensate for the minimal jewelry.

The Venue

We got married at Oakfield Farm. We used the Conservatory and the Summerhouse. We booked out the accommodation on the property for the retinue and parents.

My Bridal Beauty Regime

I started a diet and training program in June.I didn't change much of my daily routine other than the eating and training plan. 6 weeks prior to the wedding i went to an oral hygienist. A month before the wedding I used a sun bed 3 times a week.

Waxing, spray tan and eyebrow tinting was all done 3 days prior to the wedding.

Wedding Elements

Our decor was elegant and classy, we wanted to have a soft colour with white. We chose to go with dirty pinks and silver as our colours along with white.

Cafe Fleur were the spectacular artists when it came to the flowers and table decor. We were extremely happy with our decor and satisfied that our expectations were met.

We added a lot of our own touch with photo frames with photos from the past 9 years, wooden boards with quotes and sayings all made by our cousin Teresa van der Merwe. These pieces put the cherry on top for us, we felt that our guests would really enjoy these added extras and appreciate the personal touch we had put on the day.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The groom wore a black suit with a white long sleeve Polo shirt, The suit was rounded off with a silver/grey waistcoat and silver/grey tie. Superman cuff links and comic socks were added as a personal preference to the overall look. A pin with pendants of lost loved ones was worn on the inside of the suit jacket.

The groomsmen had black suits with white long sleeve shirts and a black tie. The groom provided each groomsmen with a pair of comic socks and cuff links, each chosen specifically for the different groomsmen.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

The bridesmaids wore dusty pink dresses with a rose gold sequence bust, purchased from YDE. I bought their earrings and bracelet which were rose gold. Each bridesmaid purchased their shoes which were peeptoe heels and covered in pink and rose gold rhinestones.

Marriage Officer

Our marriage officer was one of the pastors from our church in Alberton, Lewensentrum - Darius van der Schyff.

My Captured Moments

Our engagement shoot and wedding day was captured by the very talented Ruan De Witt from Phoenix Photography and Jean De Witt from Your NameHere Productions. These brothers worked together as photogrpaher and videographer - and made the most of every moment.

They were accommodating and superseded our expectations. Our video allows us to relive our wedding day, from walking down the isle, to hearing the message during the ceremony, entering the reception, our first dance, the father and daughter dance and soooo much more. The photos capture timeless memories, the in the moment pictures highlight the fun we had and all the happiness and laughter we shared on the day.

We are so happy that these talented men took on the task.

Wedding Transport

At Oakfield Farm you have the choice of using the horse and carriage so this is what I made use of to make my way to the chapel and the best part was having my mom and dad on the carriage with me.

Food & Cake

Our wedding cake was made by Elsa Barbosa from Mama Lourdes Heavenly Bites. It was 3 tiers, the top one being chocolate and the bottom two being a traditional Portuguese recipe with phyllo pastry and custard in the middle.

Wedding Stationery

We did everything ourselves from the invites, to the favors, menu's etc. My mom and dad, Andre' and Vanessa van der Mescht, owners of Postnet Lifestyle in Boksburg helped me to print and complete a lot of the items.

The Reception and Entertainment

We went for dance lessons as we wanted a personalized dance. We contacted Glenda Pimer from Glenda's Academy. She choreographed our dance using the music we wanted. She was exceptional - she has the patience of a saint and she was so accommodating.

Our music was done by Cream Cheese Productions (DJ Big Boy) - they facilitated the sound in both the ceremony and reception areas. They are so well prepared and play music that only you have chosen and requested. We were very happy with the service provided by Cream Cheese Productions.
