To be quite honest, the entire day in itself was unforgettable and there is not a single thing we would change about it.
If, however, I were to select a specific moment, I think it would be walking down the aisle to come face to face with my husband. After dating for 12 years, through High School and University, we finally made it to where we wanted to be. It was something we spoke about extensively throughout our lives and to be at that specific moment, was to be living out a dream.
Seeing his face light up, with tears in his eyes, I could not help but feel overwhelmed with happiness. We couldn't keep our eyes off one another, stumbling through the words as we repeated after the priest as we were so captivated with one another. To this day I still get goosebumps thinking about that very moment, reminiscing on how perfect it all was.
That is a memory that will forever stay in our hearts.
My husband surprised me with a 9-day honeymoon to Mauritius, where we stayed at the beautiful Ravenala Hotel.
We got to relax and enjoy one another's company on beautiful white sandy beaches, cocktails on hand and happiness all around.
It really was an amazing experience as it was our first time there. The locals were very hospitable and welcoming, and they definitely made us feel so at home!
If we had our way, we would still be there!
For our wedding look, we definitely wanted something elegant, classy and romantic. Something elegant in its simplicity. We went white and silver, with a touch of bling! My hair was done by Gail Gleimius, it was pinned up in soft curls, with diamante embellished hair pins to hold everything in place, not taking away from the amazing work my make-up artist Janell Donders had done.
My wedding dress was a stylish lace mermaid wedding gown, which had a low open back design and made specifically for me by the wonderful Lizette Duncan.
The jewelry we wore on the day had significant meaning, as some items were passed down from our parents and grandparents. As per keeping up with tradition, my something old was my grandmother's white pearl encrusted clutch, my something new was my wedding dress, my something borrowed was my mother's bracelet, and my something blue was my garter.
All of these finer details added to the great success that was our wedding day.
During our planning stages we went to see many different venues, but when we walked into Red Ivory Lodge, in Hartbeespoort we were at a true loss for words. The venue was breathtakingly beautiful with magnificent views over the dam. The chapel was elevated over an embankment, with the wide mountain range in full view. The level of service provided was exceptional and we could not have asked for a better team to work with. We confirmed our wedding date the very next week after discussing and finalizing our budget.
Our bridal party, family from overseas and a few close friends stayed at the venue in the chalets which were a few minutes walk within the venue and joined us for our first breakfast as Mr. & Mrs. Feiteira-Vitoria the very next morning. It was the perfect ending to the beginning of our happily ever after.
In the lead up to our wedding day, I definitely kept up with my daily intake of water. I also had a few facials prior to the big day, by KRN Aesthetics which kept my skin glowing.
Our flowers and decor were done by someone with a knack for making everything come together and going all out to provide us with exactly what we wanted. Michelle Matthews from Oopsie Daisy created the most beautiful flower arrangements, centerpieces and bouquets. The centerpieces were divided into 2 different settings, the first consisted of 3 cylinders with baby breaths filled with water, with floating tea lights, each at different heights, and the second was a silver candelabra with white candles and dangling diamante pendants, which were all placed upon a mirror base.
Our table, which sat at the center of the venue, overlooking the Hartbeespoort dam, was filled with white roses, white candles, Mr. and Mrs. lettering, and baby breath arrangements.
To finish it all off, and this was definitely a last minute decision as we had seen it 2 weeks prior, at the venue during our rehearsal, was the draped naked bulbs from the ceiling. It brought everything together and filled the room with soft, beautiful lighting which provided a warm glow, just as our love does to one another each and every day.
My husband, whose suit was made and tailored by Bon Bons, was a sleek black fitted tuxedo, with a pearl white waistcoat and tie. The best man and groomsman, who also had their suits tailored by Bon Bons, were grey suits with white shirts and grey waistcoats. My husband had ordered socks for the groomsman and fathers, which were custom designed with their names and our wedding date, to wear on our special day. This was especially a nice touch as it is something that they will keep as a memory with them, for their continuous support.
My beautiful bridesmaids and guardian angel were dressed by my wedding dress designer from Bridal Alchemy. The wore dark grey infinity dresses, with my maid of honor wearing a slightly different shade. I had seen these dresses a while back and I really loved the idea that they could be changed to achieve different designs and shapes, which was suitable for the ladies as everyone was of a different stature. This was ideal because one single design may not have worked for everyone.
Our marriage officer was Father Chris, from the Meerhof Catholic Church. Our expectations for our service was that he captures who we are as individuals, in light of becoming one union. Father Chris did this with a great deal of love and adoration for our religion.
Patrick "The Great" Furter was our wonderful and ever so accommodating photographer. Not only was he able to capture our love perfectly, but he also dealt with my very sudden and urgent demands.
We also made use of, Johannes Schoutsen from Filmedia, who was our videographer. He was able to cinematize our sequence of events and the most breathtaking moments throughout our special day.
We had a wedding coordinator on the day, from Red Ivory Lodge. Eunice was an absolute dream to work with. So accommodating and always eager to help, she literally responded and dealt with every question and issue.
The food for our wedding was prepared by the venue, Red Ivory Lodge. The entrees, mains and dessert were absolutely exquisite, with everyone raving about the attention to detail and flavour of the meals.
Our wedding cake was done by Xana, from Royalty Cakes. We went one Saturday morning, with a wide variety of flavours to choose from, it became very difficult to narrow it down. After several discussions with my husband, we decided to go for 2 flavours on a 3 tier wedding cake. The bottom and top tier was a Merlot infused berry and the middle layer was an ovos mols flavour which is basically eggs beaten with sugar and baked, keeping to our Portuguese tradition. It was such a beautiful cake with fresh white roses streaming down the side.
For our invitations, we opted to go with the modern "era" and went with an app (my brother ding most of the technical things). We decided to use Joy. We were able to personalize our invites and do an everyday countdown. Guests were able to share special moments, before and after the wedding day.
For our stationery, we decided to be hands on and do it ourselves, which tested our patience, but we pulled through.
During our ceremony and after, while guests were having canapes, we had a violinist, Ruby from the Muses. She was remarkable in her craft, playing beautiful melodies throughout.
We were recommended to a few service providers from our wedding venue for a DJ, and after some extensive research, we decided to go with Soundworx. They were very professional from start to finish, and all our requests were met to the highest standards. The provided us with lighting and sound, as well as a dry ice machine for our first dance. It felt as if we were floating on clouds, it was truly an unforgettable experience.
