Magical Moments

Our wedding was magical and a dream come true. Not only did I marry my best friend and soulmate of 7 years in my sisters garden in Riebeek Kasteel, it became the catalyst for a family reunion of 28 family members. It included my 4 siblings from various provinces in SA and Mauritius, all their children, my 4 children and grandchildren who traveled from Australia, Mauritius, Egypt, London, PE, Durban, and Cape Town. Many, although connected on social media, due to the distance that separated us, had never met as there have been spouses joining the family and children born along the way.
No one wanted to waste a minute or wanted to be the one that couldn't make it.
My daughters and my youngest sister were my bridesmaids, my two grandsons were our page boys, my two sons walked me down the aisle, and my husbands two sons were his best men. My youngest son and daughter who are performers, sang 'the story' while we were signing the register. The inclement weather we had that week took a break and we were spoiled by an absolutely perfect day for our outdoor wedding.

The Honeymoon

We haven't been on honeymoon yet as we found we were being restricted by weather in places we thought would be fun to go, as well as creating unnecessary financial pressure. Apart from the fact that it would all be over in a few weeks, we felt having something to look forward to and plan for would be a lot of fun when we were back home. We decided we would go when we were able to go, to somewhere on our bucket list and at a time we would have the best weather.
We did break away from the wedding party for two a two night romantic package to Rosendal Winery and Spa in Robertson before we flew back to Durban, which was great fun and the scenery was picturesque.

My Special Day

As it was my second wedding and I am an older bride, I went for a look that was romantic, subtle, elegant and chique. I had golden highlights in my dark hair and wore it down, as that is Brian's favourite look. My bridesmaids wore their hair up in twists with beautiful beaded clips. My daughter styled my hair in loose curls, without any hair accessories, as my dress had a lot of detail. My makeup was done by Candice Harker, Mobile Hair and Make Up from Cape Town.
My engagement ring is a pink morganite set in rose gold and this triggered the theme for our wedding. My dress was old gold/champagne with cotton lace highlighted around the neckline and arms with blush swarovski crystals and the skirt was 3 layers of satin, Georgette and soft tule. My shoes had heels but didnt impact me on the grass and were a nude colour with an ankle strap from cotton on. My jewellery was a rose gold tennis bracelet on the left arm and on the right two chain bangles, one lent to me by my daughter as something borrowed. My earings were a dropped morganite in rose gold and to finish off, my perfume was beautiful by Estee Lauder.

The Venue

We got married in my sisters garden in Riebeek Kasteel and we stayed the night at the Klovenburg wine estate pastorie. Our guests came from far and wide and stayed at various B&Bs in the town.

My Bridal Beauty Regime

I lost weight to feel comfortable in my dress as it was fitted. My hair was coloured and highlighted at Hair Sensations at the Hilton Hotel in Durban, gel nails by perfect 10 in Durban , and lashes were done by Bianca also in Durban. We had a wonderfully relaxing hot stone massage two days before at Calamata in Riebeek Kasteel.
