Callan and I met 14 years ago in high school - poles apart as individuals from the outside but somehow we just clicked - we became fast friends and slowly best friends going through the troubles of growing up together. After school we drifted a little but still remained in contact via Facebook. Callan decided to move to the UK and after a little while decided it wasn't for him - when he came back this is when we re connected... sitting in JB's corner in my Bafana Bafana t-shirt and a top knot straight from gym is where our romance started, when we laid eyes on one another we knew it wasn't just a friendship anymore... and the rest as they say is history! I can truly say I have married my best friend!
Father's Day is a sore point for me as my Father passed when I was just nine... so every year I brace myself for the Father's Day cards, the children hurrying through the shops to buy something special... so each year it get's a little tough. At the time Cal was working weekends so he took the weekend off - i thought to comfort me but little did I know.... So on the Sunday he took me out for breakfast, we went to visit his Dad to wish him Happy Father's Day and we were going to a family friend for lunch... now everyone who knows me knows I hate being late, so much so I would rather be an hour early. We were late for the lunch and still had to go home to fetch drinks so I was a little annoyed as it was. Arriving home it was pitch black due to a power outage, as I stepped out the car Cal put a scarf around my face and said wait here - the only thing going through my head was the fact my hair was caught in the scarf and what a mess it would be for the dinner... Cal lead me into the house and said now take it off.... hundreds of sparkling tealights, roses for days, sushi, my favorite champagne and my boyfriend on one knee!! I sobbed my heart out and we just held each other till we both realized i never said yes! It was perfect and so intimate - i truly have a special man in my life!
I started the day relaxed having breakfast with my Mom and future in laws - which was honestly so special to get to spend time with them. The most memorable moments include running around with my #BrideTribe because this Bride decided to be a DIY bride and do most of everything herself - bar the flowers that my beautiful friend and bridesmaid did for me! My morning was frantic - but you know what I wouldn't have had it any other way. I remember standing on the bridge waiting to walk down the aisle having a full on ugly cry and then pulling myself together to go and marry the man of my dreams, holding his hand so tight once i got to the end of the aisle because I had missed him having not seen him the day before. Saying I do, kissing and then high fiving - because we were both so happy! Our first dance feeling so awkward and just laughing about it and dancing like nobody was watching with people we love!
We did - we were lucky enough to have 3 very special couples that contributed to making our honeymoon the most amazing two weeks. For a week Callan's parents paid for us to stay in an apartment overlooking St Francis Marina - it was spectacular. For 3 days we stayed with family of mine in Port Elizabeth where we continued the gin on the balcony and the endless seafood. We ended off our honeymoon in Haga Haga gifted to us by my boss and close friend where we stayed in her five bedroom basically mansion with full sea views - it was the relaxation we needed!
I wanted to go for something classic - I am not the typical bride that loves poof and thrills... So i opted for a very simple but heavily beaded sheath Oleg Casini dress from Bride & Co, my veil also from Bride & Co added the drama with it's over 2m long embroidered beauty! My shoes were simple Steve Madden grey ballet flats with ribbons that laced up my leg - I am accident prone at the best of times, so add heels and I would fall on my face! My jewelry was bought for me by my handsome husband.
I opted for quite dramatic makeup - bold eyes and a bold lip - I did my own makeup as I know my face quite well and what works and what doesn't. My hair was done by my amazing hairdresser Tamie from Colour Bar - we did a trial for a very regal up do and that is what I went with - classic but perfect to hold up my veil!
We go married at Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa in Muldersdrift. It was magical - I had been to a wedding there a little over a year ago and fell in love with the venue and its potential for amazing photographs. Many of our guests spent the night at the hotel with its luxurious rooms and delicious breakfast in the morning.
To be fair working the hours I do in the very go go go industry of PR my preparation for my wedding did not include much - I just made sure I had no breakouts, didn't gain weight (as you would definitely see it in my dress)... My beauty regime began the week before my wedding getting my hair colour right, and then the day before getting waxed and my nails done for the big day!
Grey, white and a touch of navy were our colours for the big day! Proteas and eucalyptus are by far my favourites when it comes to flowers and greenery so of course those had to be brought in.
Chapel: As you entered was very simple with draping around the arch, the silver tiffany chairs that were on the aisle had grey tiebacks completed with a flower and ribbon. White buckets filled with baby eucalyptus adorned the sides of the aisles and the registry table had a simple white table cloth with a white protea.
Venue: The venue itself was lit up with uplighters in a complementing purple shade, the table cloths were white and the runners a dark grey. We had tall vases filled with eucalyptus and topped with eucalyptus, small daisies and tall starks in white. The table numbers were on silver card on a silver easel, tea light candles and candles in white lanterns completed the bejeweled tables with silver tiffany chairs.
The guests were treated to a doughnut board filled with Krispy Kremes which to many was the highlight for the evening - especially the children!
Chairs were hired from Fancy Affairs
Table Cloths were hired from Party Solutions
Lanterns, Easels, Underplates etc. hired from Chocolate Turquoise

The groom wore a navy suit from Zara (and oh boy was this a challenge to find), he paired this with a navy waist coat from Euro Suit and simple accessories - opting to keep his shoes black which is quite different as navy suits are often paired with brown shoes. The groomsmen all hired their suits from Eurosuit and had their own accessories, however their ties were from Studio W and I hand stitched their pocket squares to match the grooms tie!
I wanted my bridesmaids in 50 shades of grey! They all chose dresses from Gelique - 2 opting for custom dresses and the other 2 opting for their wrap dresses - which they both tied in halter neck styles. They all had grey or navy accessories to complement the look. My Maid of Honour wore a navy ribbon to stand out from the girls. 3 of the girls had their hair down and in curls and one bridesmaid had her hair up as her dress was one shouldered. My girls looked stunning!
My two flower girls were in navy blue Gelique dresses with grey ribbons and both had french braids with baby's breath worked into their hair.

Tyronne Eilenberg was our marriage officer - we went to school with him and it was not even an option for him to do our ceremony! He was utterly fantastic and we loved having him part of our special day!
An amazing team from Good Night. Key Light. (http://www.gnkl.co/) Shanell and Jamie - they were there from beginning to end and were so fun to work with! They went above and beyond for everything I asked and work very closely with you every step of the way, and even when my ideas might have been slightly out of the box they tried and tested them and made them work! Photographs are all you have at the end of the day and I can say mine will stand the test of time - if you spend money on anything with your wedding make sure you hire a fantastic team - like Shanell and Jamie!
No I didn't - only Chantell from the wedding venue - but between myself, my Mom, Mother and Father in Law, a close friend of mine and my bridesmaids (especially one who went above and beyond) were amazing at ensuring the day was everything I had hoped for.
The food was delicious and done by the venue, we opted for a plated menu where along with our invitation guests were given the options to choose their menu's and therefore on the day there was no mess or fuss! Our wedding cake was cupcakes made for me by my special friend Lucy - I am a baker but I had no time or patience so I entrusted this to someone who did an amazing job!
I have an amazing designer I work with on a daily basis and she did our save the date and invitations - again I am in the PR industry so we used one of our printing contacts. The table numbers, the menu's, order of service cards and everything else I designed and printed myself.
We had a DJ for the ceremony and the reception - Starry Night, they were absolutely amazing! Having heard them at a friends wedding and how they read the crowd, I knew they were perfect! They also did lighting for us - as we had the room lit up in purple to compliment the grey. Our first dance was simple and we simply swayed to the music - we aren't the type to go for dance lessons and do something dramatic - it was perfect though and so intimate.
Undoubtedly the best views in Gauteng to pledge your love is found right here at the foot of the Swartkops Mountain on the edge of several flyfishing dams, in Muldersdrift.
