Before getting engaged, my father had one condition….My husband, James, (then boyfriend) first had to purchase a house before getting my father’s blessing in asking me to marry him.
The house hunting began and after months of searching, we found the one. We got engaged and purchased the house. Little did we plan for the transfer fees and registration costs, the wedding costs and honeymoon.
I scheduled an appointment at Ever After Bridal in Nelspruit immediately after getting engaged to hopefully say “yes” to a dress with the help of the owner, Milize Viljoen.
She suggested a dress and I fell in love with it, but my heart stopped when I saw the purchase price of the Maggie Soterro, Marianne Dress, and left the consultation with disappointment. I told James about the dress and how much I loved it and the heartache of the price, where he surprised me and bought it.
The morning of the 24th September 2016 at Casa do Sol, Hotel and Resort in Hazyview, Mpumalanga, I woke up to a delicious breakfast in bed with non-alcoholic champagne and a precious gift from my parents.
Looking around in my room, I see the Maggie Sottero, Marianne dress hanging in the corner, my lush-pink bouquet I made for myself, pinching myself, knowing that the day I’ve been dreaming about is finally here.
I was treated to a spa morning, doing our nails, full body massage and snacks with one of my bridesmaids, where after I joined the ladies in our honeymoon suite for hair and makeup.
Marle from Artistic Hair, Nelspruit, knew exactly what hairstyle will complement my wedding dress and Zandri, the makeup artist from MUD Makeup in Nelspruit, did an amazing job with airbrushing my makeup. I felt like a princess.
James and his groomsmen went for a swim in the pool, had something to eat and had to share a shower to get ready.
My father and bridesmaids were so shocked when they saw me in my wedding dress, all dolled up and we shared an emotional moment together, as they never knew what the dress looks like.
Walking down the aisle with my father to “Sinking Deep” from the Hillsong Young and Free album, was so special. Smiling and giggling as I see James’ reaction as he sees me.
The ceremony was the most important part of the whole wedding, as Pastor Hennie van der Merwe from CRC (Christian Revival Church) in Nelspruit preached, where more than 20 guests gave their hearts to God, which left us speechless. Our heart’s desire to see our family and friends saved was fulfilled on our wedding day.
Our opening dance song, “Jy sal weet” the new album of Riana Nel’ set the romantic tone for the evening. We had such a special day and ended it off on a high, dancing with the staff at 23:50 on a well-known song of Mandoza.
We had an elegant wedding at a beautiful venue with unforgettable memories that will last a life time ❤
