Bronwen Smit

Married on Jul 2, 2016 in Western Cape

When Ateeq and I met 3 years ago, it was clear from very early on that we had a connection that was not to be ignored. We started out as friends first and really got to know each other well before taking the next step. Soon, it was clear that we were soul mates and knew that life would not be the same without each other.

Ateeq proposed in June last year on a quiet little beach in Hermanus. He had organised for all of my best friends and my Mom to drive from Cape Town to join us for a little surprise celebration and I was over the moon when I walked into our guest house and saw the faces of all of our loved ones.

The week leading up to the wedding was cold, wet and windy, even right up to the night before. I lay in bed that night listening to the rain and the howling winds and was convinced that we were all going to be drenched the next day.

On the morning of the wedding, I woke up to clear blue skies and not a breath of wind. I just knew at that moment that our union was meant to be and that this would be the perfect start of the rest of our lives together.

Ateeq had left a gift and 3 beautiful letters with my bridesmaids for me to read at each stage of getting ready on our wedding day. Each one left me in tears and I could not believe that I was finally marrying my Prince Charming.

We got married at The Range in Tokai in a beautiful old stone chapel surrounded by big beautiful trees. Our minister was amazing and really set the tone for the rest of our day. Our photos were taken in the foresty area next to the venue. Our reception followed in the log cabin at the same venue. I have always loved everything vintage, so naturally, our wedding had a vintage feel. I wore a gorgeous Cristana Carrera gown and our tables were adorned with vintage coffee pots and lots of pearls and lace. Our flowers were King Proteas, blush pink & white roses, baby's breath and succulents. Our wedding co-ordinator did the most amazing job with the venue and I was in tears when I walked in for the first time as I could not believe how perfect everything looked. Besides our family and friends, we had a huge log fire going the whole night as well as gluhwein to keep us warm and toasty on a very chilly 4 degree evening.

We truly had the most magnificent day and even if I had the chance, I would not change a thing. Thanks to all of our service providers for playing such a big part in our perfect day!
