You plan more than a year and expect the most special day of a girl's life to be over in heartbeat minute! But that was not the case for me. In fact, it is only the beginning of the path you chose with that person you call the love of your life. And in life, there are punches, which you roll with, and there are wowzer moments, which (if you are lucky) you capture with a photograph, or blink your eye to capture it in your mind forever. And you twirl it around in your mind for a lifetime to reflect on...just as you would with a great scoop of your favourite ice-cream!
That was our wedding day, and this is our life.
We had stressful moments, hanging by a thread and hanging on to a moment moments, and we had joyful moments which filled our hearts with so much love. But most of all we had in the moment moments. Our wedding weekend was everything we hoped it would be - filled with beauty from every corner of every nook and cranny, filled with an overload of fun, and most of all filled with love for each other and from our family and friends.
Let me give you the background in a short summary - Jacques and I met in restaurant, fell in love while walking my puppies in the park that same day, spent some time apart a week later, then realized we were born to love and nurture each other for the rest of our God-given lives. Jacques and I took on the challenge to follow through on an idea he had since we met - to start a day sail business in the British Virgin Islands. While in planning phases, we were blessed with the worlds greatest golden-haired, blue-eyed boy. That's when he asked me to marry him and we started planning our what would be destination wedding against a backdrop of picture perfect Cape wine farm mountains, at Zorgvliet Wine Estate in the Banhoek Valley.
It was important to have all, or most of, our close friends and family there, but to balance that with a conservative budget - that meant highlight the things that matter most to us, and cut the frills we didn't see a need for. It came together perfectly with wonderful friends and family who descended from far corners overseas and from Gauteng on this jewel of a place. My friend, Amanda Green, was responsible for everything on the day and to help me create the most beautiful wine farm vibe. And that we did - from the tractor ride to the vows under the gaze of the mountains, to the stunning jazz band and the smooth saxophone sounds, to the flowers in 'bursts of colour,' to the funnest music to dance on, to the laughter of family and friends and to that moment when our son Blake handed me over to his dad, my new husband Jacques.
21 May 2016 was a day that we will be bask in and think back on not only because our home will forever be filled with the most beautiful pictures of that day, but also because we will take that love we felt for and from each other, our family and friends and fold it safely in our hearts.
Share our haven and you will never be the same again as you will become a beholder of the spirit of the Banghoek Valley.
