My wedding day was by far the most amazing day of my life. I mean what can possibly be more meaningful than a celebration of Love and Unity between two people, celebrating it with loved ones as witnesses, making a promise to God Whom is Love in totality. Its all about LOVE. Life is all about love.
So that morning I decided to press the chill out button and try and be in the moment. My aim was to absorb as much as possible and to experience the day.
We got married at the NG Moedergemeente Church in Durbanville. Its the oldest church in Durbanville and I wanted the wedding march to be played on the antique organ. It was very dramatic, and I wanted it exactly like that. The gorgeous red carpet, high ceilings, wooden vaults and benches all contributed to the dramatic feel of the event.
My beautiful bridesmaids walked in first with poise and elegance and then came dad and I. I really have no idea why my dad rushed the way he did. Oh my word, I think he was more nervous than I was, I could sense we were walking too fast but just smiled. Luckily my Love was waiting there to calm me down. He looked so handsome, and he took my hand and held it tight to calm me down as my bouquet was shaking so much.
When we were declared husband and wife Jacques draped his arms around me and gave me the biggest kiss ever. Our witnesses loved it and actually stood up and gave us an applause. It probably looked like the infamous "The Kiss" painting done by Gustav Klimt.
I am a very sentimental person and therefore the wedding venue I choose also had to be the oldest wine farm in Durbanville called Altydgedacht. Pampoenkraal is the name of the venue. What a fairy forest. The trees are very old and the greens are established. Old fallen trees lie around and the leaves were various colours. Our photographer managed to capture the aesthetic play of light between the branches so lovely.
The Reception was a feast and a great party! We walked in on the song " stay on these roads" by AHA and greeted all our loved ones before cutting our wedding cake. It was gorgeous, I loved the colour combinations of the cupcakes with the fresh roses and golden covers. I was very pleased with the cupcakes, the top cake and the display of it. The tables were stunning- the flowers, menu's, candles, draped ect. The guests absolutely loved the cupcakes as they had caramel centers " heavenly decadent" as they refer to themselves as.
The fires outside created a sense of warmth and cosiness. I like the idea that they "braai" the food on the fires during the reception. I find it unique and very South African. I was very happy with the food, and the feedback was very positive.
The speeches were enticing. My husband handed out dummies to those who chirped him during his speech. Luckily he was well prepared with a second copy of his speech in his socks- as the crowd stole his speech. I forgave dad for running me down the isle after I heard his wonderful speech. I was so proud of my dad. All the speeches were so sincere and real, no pretense.
If there is one word to describe my wedding day I would use the word "Real". People were smiling and laughing out of their chests, dancing from their souls, speaking from their hearts, and sharing a moment with us we will cherish for the rest of our lives. I am so grateful to have had the most amazing wedding day ever!
