Jared and I met as first year students at university. I never in a million years would have expected the shy, blonde boy who sat next to me in our Physics 101 lecture to be the man of my dreams - but I very soon realised that he was.
After 5 and a half wonderful years of dating, Jared proposed to me under the stars on a Mauritian beach - and as the ring went onto my finger, the sky exploded into a thousand colours - fireworks for a religious festival - a beautiful coincidence that Jared swears to this day he planned.
A flurry of planning, pinteresting, wedding magazines, dress fittings and venue visits ensued - and before we knew it, our wedding day was upon us!
We were married at Cranford Country Lodge in the KZN Midlands - a venue that took my breath away from the minute I entered its gates. A lot of the elements of the day were DIY, from the home-grown succulent rock roses scattered on the table, to the wedding cake that I baked the Thursday before, rustic signs around the venue, and my beaded veil that I hand-made.
Our wedding day dawned bright and sunny, and after a brisk morning run with my little sister/maid of honour the real preparations began! I was so touched by the amount of love that day from friends and family! So many people banded together to help the day run smoothly. My amazing hairdresser and friend Hein Holtzhauzen arrived bright and early to do the girls hair, and even made time to make sure Jared looked dapper! A dear friend, Jessica, who was very close to giving birth to two gorgeous little girls, did all our makeup. It was so special to have close friends help me get ready on the day, and not just service providers.
Surrounded by family and dear friends, we took our vows in the gorgeous stone chapel overlooking a misty lake. I cried happy tears from the minute my Dad and I walked down the Aisle right until I kissed my new Husband, and for quite some time after the ceremony.
We exited the chapel ahead of our guests, and one of my fondest memories of the day are the few quiet minutes we had together behind the chapel, our first quiet moments together as husband and wife, before rejoining our guests in a shower of bubbles, hugs and kisses. We spent the afternoon playing lawn games, eating cupcakes and sipping tea and champagne with loved ones before heading off for our photo-shoot.
Dinner and dancing and speeches followed, and we were danced off our feet. The garter and bouquet toss were magical....both recipients were engaged within a few months after catching the lucky charms! We exited the beautiful reception venue, which was draped in fairy lights with rustic logs, flowers, succulent rock roses and candles on the tables, through an arch of our friends to Taylor Swift's "today was a fairytale" - a title that perfectly described our perfect day.
