A touch of Africa!

It all started in Cape Town with a ring on my finger and a loud pitched "hells yes"... Drew popped the question and the planning began. I am not a traditional sort of person and thus anything against the traditional white wedding I could think of I wanted to have at our wedding. However, that said I have been dreaming of my wedding day since the late 90's when movies such as Wedding Planner came out and everything seemed like a fairy tale. We took almost a year to the day to plan the perfect wedding, for us. We got married at a venue called Lethabo Estates, which is near the Lanseria Airport. It is a 4-star venue with an African feel. As Drew and I both are from South Africa we wanted something a little more tradition in the "African" sense. My family being the go getters they are helped with absolutely everything. We hand made as much as we could, from the invitations to the decorations. My beautiful bridesmaids dresses were made by a divine Ghanaian woman in JHB CBD. The Grooms and groomsmen/women's outfits were made by a "scary looking" Nigerian tailor at the Oriental Plazer. My one of a kind Dress was made by a long standing family friend and dress designer. Our whole family and the bridal parties all stayed at the venue for the whole weekend. Which took the pressure of setting up off everyone! Us ladies spent the morning sipping champagne whilst doing our hair and make-up... The champagne was well needed to keep the nerves in check. Once we were all "bedazzled" it was time to get married. We had a Charity Marimba band play during the service which kept everyone's spirits high. My mom and "mama"(our long standing helper) swept me down the eil like a traditional African Wedding. During the service we did everything from spill water on the ground as a symbol of life to help our marriage grow from the roots up; we shared blankets as a symbol that we accept each other into the New family. We also got given a tree of life from the divine lady who married us. Drew and I shared our own vows that were extremely emotional but to this day mean the world to both of us. We then had the BEST party of our lives. With our closest friends and family, we enjoyed delicious food and laughed non-stop to our two MC's (My older sister Joss and our Brother in-law Andrew). This was the start of what we believe will be a lifelong adventure!!!
