Oh! What a love story it has been! A little less than two weeks before our wedding, I found a large lump in my right breast. After a good chat with my fiancé, Etienne and my parents, I reluctantly decided to have it looked at, not thinking it was anything to worry about. To cut a long story short, I ended up having a biopsy. I was told by my Doctor to enjoy our wedding and honeymoon and that we would deal with this after returning from honeymoon.
Oh!! How I enjoyed our wedding day! It was a day filled with love, joy, laughter, romance, singing, friends and family. It did not cross my mind on that special day, 19 March 2016, that it was possible that I had breast cancer. Little did I know what journey I was about to enter into as a newly married wife. I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer the day after returning from our honeymoon. The memories I have of this amazing day lifted my spirit on those days when it felt like it was all too much. I enjoyed every moment of our wedding day, even those moments that didn't quite go the way I planned it to. I think it has to be a choice you make before your day begins that even if things go wrong, you won’t stress but rather go with the flow and make the most of your special day.
Since a little girl, I have always wanted to get ready for my wedding in my childhood home. Well, my dream came true! Our beautiful wedding venue, Roydon Private Nature Reserve is situated 6km’s outside Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. I was very blessed and humbled by the group of people, who helped make my day so special. Thank you could not be said enough.
