Words cannot describe the way I felt the hours before the wedding. I was constantly aware of the fact that I am going to be spotless and beautiful for my husband, intentional - a principal one should actually apply daily in your marriage: Being intentional.
Marrying a strong leader who is an example of how a man should live to so many men out there, I not only had to step up to his standard of living, but to his standard of giving - giving your time, your money, your love, your acceptance, your passion, your commitment, and ultimately the most important gift: Yourself.
My husband taught me that the best gift you can give your spouse is the gift of constant growth and improvement in all areas of your own life, and the best gift parents can give their children is the gift of loving and respecting each other unconditionally as husband and wife.
May I become more and more like my husband every day. My hero, my best friend, my lover and my partner for the rest of my life!
Frederik, I love you!
I was (and still am) so thankful for the skill and blessing of creativity. I have always helped out at kitchen teas and weddings, because I was always the bridesmaid. Thereafter kitchen teas and weddings turned into baby showers! I finally had the chance to play around with my own wedding colour and decor.
IT ALL STARTED WITH THE NAPKINS
I wanted to buy beautiful material to make napkins for my wedding. My twin sister and I went to Metro to look for beautiful material and could not resist the coral, maroon, stone and light blue patterned material when we saw it! I instantly fell in love with the colours and the designs on the material. We bought material for the napkins. From there, all the other decor were chosen or made. My mother then jumped in and started to sew, because I did not have time!
OUR SWEETHEART TABLE
My 'other father' (family friends since I was about 9 or 10 years of age) made the sweetheart table for me and my husband. We decided to be seated at a sweetheart table alone, as my husband's parents both passed away recently and we wanted my parents to be seated with their friends. This worked out perfectly! We will now incorporate this table at further special events in our family, such as the photos of our newborn babies, their graduation, our anniversaries etc.
My 'other sister' and 'other mother' were so kind to give us the flowers as a wedding gift. They played around with all my favorite flowers and added brown roses as their own personal touch.
DETAIL ON THE TABLES
Well, I played around with the Bigshot and Silhouette Cameo to make the place-cards, bought as many strings of pearls which I could find and finished the tables with tealight candles.
After a crisis with a supplier I had to make a plan to get hold of a new wedding cake in less than two weeks before the wedding. There are two things that helped replace the cake timeously: The fact that I had good references, and the fact that I knew exactly what I wanted. The layers of the cake were carrot and red velvet flavour with cream cheese icing.
I got my dress from the first bridal boutique we walked into, Michelangela Bridal Boutique. It was the fifth dress I tried on and I knew it was my dress when I did not want to take it off, and when I turned around my twin sister cried! We cancelled all other fittings at other bridal boutiques.
My husband knows me well enough to know what kind of rings I love. He sat with the jeweler and designed my ring. I did not give input on the design, but clearly I did not have to give input - my ring is beautiful!
My husband's ring were designed by the two of us and made by Titanium Studio. My fingerprint is engraved in the inside of his ring.
My husband is a good looking and stylish man. He always smells nice and always looks presentable. He wore Dunhill Red perfume, his comfortable Trenery shoes and his late father's watch which was, by the way, the 'gift' I sent him the morning of our wedding. I kept it from a while back and decided then already that I will have it polished and fixed for him to wear on our wedding in remembrance of his late father.
I bought comfortable shoes because I like dancing, and because I did not want to get used to a new pair of shoes on our wedding day. I bought one size bigger in order for it not to fit too tightly, and gave them away after the wedding. I borrowed the pearl earrings from my twin sister and received the pearl bracelet from my husband as a gift the morning of the wedding. My perfume was Davidoff Cool Water, chosen by my husband.
We got married at one of the most beautiful venues in Pretoria - Lombardy Boutique Hotel. Nestled among tranquil gardens, water features and majestic trees, we were lucky enough to tie the knot on a beautiful summers day at a venue we both loved, even before we met.
Choosing the venue was easy. We went to the venue to refresh our memory of how beautiful, cozy and stylish the venue is. Then we looked at each other, smiled and we just knew! We did not even visit other venues and booked Lombardy Boutique Hotel straight away. Who can say no to this beautiful venue and fine dining?
