Married on Nov 20, 2016 in Western Cape

Our journey began on the 17th of November boarding the MSC Sinfonia for our EPIC wedding cruise. My relationship with my husband Jesse had been filled with adventure; from rafting to elephant rides, studying and graduating together, surfing and gaming... we do not have a typical life and our wedding had to be as Epic as our romance. I was so blessed that our families and close friends flew in from all parts of South Africa to join us on our voyage from Durban Port to Portuguese Island, Mozambique.

Mother nature was friendly on day one and graced us with a beautiful clear sunny day, when the horn blew we set sail with festive music and the crew leading the conga line (yes we had a wedding tradition pre the wedding... it was as if we had 3000 guests celebrating with us). Cocktails flew from deck to deck...I was having such a blast it didn’t even occur to me I was late for my wedding planning session! If there is one way to get rid of the pre-wedding jitters have your wedding on a cruise!

The wedding planner took us to the venue at the very top deck of the Sinfonia overlooking the gorgeous blue ocean, a one stop God inspired photobooth and honeymoon all set on one place. My heart stopped as I just realised , “hey I am getting married on Sunday!”. But the venue was just too breath taking for any nerves to set in. I was about to marry the man of my dreams on a freaking boat! Since the day I met my husband (Jesse) he has always filled my life with crazy twists and turns and our wedding was about to be no different! All the planning was done and it was time to rock the boat...karaoke with my maid of honour, my dad, my friends and I even got a little show as The crowd went crazy to our choreographed rendition of lady marmalade with my sister. The first night set such a tone as the Sinfonia felt like a "made just for you" wedding experience... one of my guests won Bingo the first night ( hundreds of people playing but lady luck shone on my party)... Arno Carstens performed later that evening (literally rocking the boat) and one my friends won a dance competition with him! It was a magical night.

The next day we awoke to champers and canapes provided by the crew and were ready for another fun filled day on the Portuguese Island. That was when the dream turned into an epic adventure... To my horror I looked out our cabin window and it was raining! that was not going to stop us getting to the island. Towels and ponchos in check we made it to the speed boat and jetted to the Island where there was a braai and live music waiting for us. We looked so silly huddled up in our raincoats on an island but where there is good company there is always a good time. Island music and pot bread, coconut drinks and eating watermelon in the rain. That night we got ready for the cruise themed party and danced the night away on the upper deck. It was getting late and I needed to get my beauty sleep because the next day was my wedding! If only you could tell that to the best man who still had Jesse superglued to the bar!

The morning of my wedding the sun was out and the ocean breeze was gentle. the rain was gone and no sign of jitters. I felt immediately that this was going to be a day that I was never going to forget. I was ready with my hair, done for me in my room by a stylist and make up, done by me which only took a few weeks of practice to DIY...with only 5 minutes to spare before I was set to walk down the aisle! i was escored by a handsomely dressed sailor and my little nephew in his mini version of a sailor outfit. My entry music played and my heart just melted when I saw the look in his eyes. i laughed audibly down the aisle, beaming with happiness. At that moment I knew that it didn’t matter how or where but I would marry this man every single day for the rest of my life to experience the way he looked at me that moment. I felt love beaming from him and I knew I was so blessed to spend the rest of my life with my soul mate. The captain officiated the ceremony beautifully and all my guests were dressed to the nines. After the toasts it was off for fun and photos around the boat. When we arrived at the deck a group of spirited women even sang for me as if it was staged! I was so happy and felt so beautiful but it was time again to get the bikini out and dip into the Jacuzzi for a post wedding relaxation session. That evening we dined in the main restaurant hall and there was laughter and happiness all abound. I was Mrs Shana Dicks and my life could not have panned out any more perfectly.

It was really the most amazing experience of my life and I am so happy that each day with my husband feels like the epic adventures just never stop!

Bon voyage MSC Sinfonia, thanks for the best day of my life!
