When I first saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew. – William Shakespeare
In the year we met (2013, on my Dad's birthday) we had both been working in Stellenbosch town’s tree-lined Victoria Street for many years, our offices within throwing distance from one another, yet our paths never crossed. Neither of us were particularly excited about the work function we had to attend but luckily we both went! Both of us agree it was love at first sight.
We started dating at the beginning of 2015 and our love grew with each day. Shortly after, we moved in together with our three beloved cats – Gizmo, Puzzles and Gracie (aka James Grace). To this date, one of our sweetest shared experiences is dreaming together. After the wedding, our family expanded and now include a sweet mature canine, Mitch.
Normally, I’m hard to surprise because I always pick up on small clues that give away the surprise, but with Justin’s proposal, I was completely blown away. When he went down on one knee on the Langebaan beach at sunset, I initially didn’t even see the ring, I was so clueless… It was the happiest moment of my life.
After our engagement in July 2017, we quickly became discouraged while hunting for a suitable wedding venue. Neither of us enjoy being in the spotlight in front of large groups, and the idea of a large (intimidating) wedding made our collective hands sweat. On a Sunday afternoon (once again, on my Dad’s birthday!) we made a quick stop to Picardi Place on our way home, not expecting to discover our wedding venue. We met Jaco, who offered us our first decent cappuccino of the week, and when he opened the shed door to show us the venue … we were both sold! We immediately saw the potential and Jaco’s unpretentious and easy-going approach resonated with our personal style. We both love DYI and getting our hands dirty!
Our wedding day was a glorious affair where the focus really was on just one thing - our love for one another. The wedding decor was a DYI affair, with wonderful friends and Justin himself revealed many hidden talents. The ceremony under the tree was truly magical. A day we will never forget and cherish forever.
