“In these bodies we will live, in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love, you invest your life” ― Mumford & Sons
On 22.10.2016 we did just that, invested our love in each other…this was the BEST DAY OF OUR LIVES, in fact from the day we got engaged to the day we got married was a whirlwind of love, excitement and the best memories.
Lucius and I lived and worked in Amsterdam for 18 months, we got to travel Europe and do new adventures together. On the 1st of July 2015 on a little island in Croatia called Vis, we got engaged and from that day forward we started dreaming up our wedding day.
We set our hearts on having a weekend celebration surrounded by the beautiful Karoo scenery and decided on lots of greenery and white flowers with hints of delft as a little reminder of our time together in Amsterdam. Most of all we wanted a big, relaxed and fun celebration with all our friends and family.
Friday the 21st, round about 3pm our friends and family started arriving and the excitement began to build. We kicked off our wedding weekend with a braai! it was absolutely heart-warming to see our guests becoming friends, stand around a bonfire and enjoy a drink or two. Looking back a weekend wedding was one of the best decisions as we got to spend more time with our friends and family and enjoy the celebrations to its fullest.
Saturday 22 October 2016, our day had finally arrived and what a beautiful day it was!
The groom, groomsmen and guests spent the sunny day in the pool, chatting, going for walks/runs around the farm and enjoying brunch in the little restaurant. The bridesmaids and I got to watch all the excitement from the honeymoon suite on a little hill overlooking the venue while we did our hair and makeup.
The day was relaxed, full of laughter and champagne.
2pm arrived and with that I got to put on my dream dress made my Janita Toerien, I felt like a beauty queen with my hair, makeup and dress. My bridesmaids looked beautiful in their shift dresses each with a different floral print.
Lucius and his groomsmen hoped out the pool at 3pm, I got Lucius a vinyl player, as a wedding gift, with his favourite artist, Jeremy Loop’s vinyl. They put the music on and suited up.
A special moment for me was when my brother came to pick me up at the honeymoon suite, we had one last glass of champagne, took a few deep breathes and drove down to the chapel where my Dad met me. The moment had finally arrived!
I walked down the aisle to The Cello Song by The Piano Guys and toward my best friend, my braaier, my coffee in bed bringer, my laughter and happily ever after!
HECK YES we did it!
Afterwards, it was so nice to party, mingle, and celebrate with everyone!
Some of our favourite memories were out cheese tower cake, polaroid photo booth, bowtie station, (temp) tattoo parlour, run through breakaway banner entering reception, our confetti popper first dance, special speeches by our friends and family, our ice-cream and waffle dessert bar and our lemon drop shot (tequila, sugar and a slice of lemon) in remembrance of my fun loving step mom who passed away earlier in 2016. It's difficult to pinpoint just one moment because whenever I'm with Lucius, it's magic.
We danced the night away and left with the last guests at 2am.
It was the most magical day and exceeded all our dreams, thinking back brings the biggest smiles to our faces.
