Antony and I like to do things ‘our way’ not what society or people expect you should be doing. Our wedding most certainly resembled this with our own style and flair, touched with a hint of tradition. We did not want another cookie cutter wedding.
Antony did not want to wear a suite, so we opted for shorts (which his lovely sister bought for us in Scotland, Edinburgh) a custom made waistcoat and a nice white shirt to round the outfit off with.
I, on the other hand, had no interest in getting married in a white dress. I had my heart set on getting married in an emerald green and silver (the wedding colours) dress – a one of a kind wedding dress!
I made up my mind that there were to be no flowers at the wedding, only the traditional bride and maid of honours bouquets. I opted for green proteas with sunflowers. Sunflowers are such happy flowers!
We used green apples and limes in vases as a focal point above the fire place in the reception barn. Each guest table had 3 green apple candles (an apple with a tea light candle in it). The centrepieces had to be elegant but very plain (less is more in my mind!); so I opted for large silver candelabras with dark green candles. Instead of using the run of the mill table runners, I opted to use 3 broad emerald green ribbon strips and laid this out on top of the crisp white table clothes, surrounded by the silver under plates and cutlery, it looked striking. Elegant, clean and not cluttered.
We had a beautiful light curtain and it added to the elegance and romance of the day. The look and feel of the wedding was relaxed, mixed with elegance, a classic touch and a hint of tradition thrown in the mix. It worked perfectly and everything came beautifully together.
It truly is a day that Antony and I will not forget. We made a decision to christen our 2 year old son on the same day and included this in the wedding ceremony. This really was a different and unique wedding. To have our family and friends around us on this very special day was a great privilege and honour.
The day would not have been possible without the help of our magnificent venue Le Manoir de Brendal, our décor set-up and on the day co-ordinators from Joli Creation and Design, our lovely photographer Marie Malherbe and the beautiful Elouise Rhoode from Elouise Roode Bridal and Evening Wear for my one of a kind wedding dress!
Would I change anything, absolutely not! It was a perfect day :)
