To share our wedding day I have to give some back ground of our story….
Duncan and I grew up in PE, at the time we dated, he was so in love and sure that I was the one for him though the thought of settling at such a young age did not appeal to me, life was still an adventure. We broke up and I ended up moving to Pretoria. The last conversation we had, we light heartedly decided that if I am not dating or married at age 30 I will reconsider and marry him.
We saw each other at least once a year when I visited my brother and best friend (his sister), to say that I didn’t have any feelings for him would have been a lie.
Every year on my birthday in July, Duncan would call to wish me well and remind me that he is patiently waiting for me. This became a sweet tradition that we both shared and treasured until last year when he didn’t call, last year I turned 30.
His sister and her boyfriend came to visit in October 2014 and there was some kind of emptiness lingering with him not being around. To my surprise, Duncan arrived on the Friday evening, with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, all he said was “your time is up”.
Everything just fell into place, we picked up where we left off and life was how it was supposed to be. We got engaged on Christmas Eve at the beach with a flawless sunset.
Pearls, lace and dusty pink was the theme for the grand event, my something old was wearing my Mom’s wedding dress, something new were my shoes, something borrowed was my friend’s pearls and something blue, my garter which my grandmother made.
Our wedding day was held at the Stellenrust Wine Estate, it was a day filled with laughter and giggles, the background being the perfect late afternoon vineyard.
Marrying my handsome husband, sharing the day with best friends and uniting our families was the best day of my life.
Our long awaited happily ever after started.
