Ianette Hanekom

Married on Aug 8, 2015

It was a perfect, warm winters day in the picturesque Witzenberg Valley when Werner & I tied the knot. We could not have asked for a more beautiful setting than this quaint little “plattelandse dorpie”.
We had a small, intimate wedding with only close family and friends. This made it extra special for us, as our main feelings surrounding our wedding was of love and companionship. As it was a long weekend, many guests stayed for the entire weekend in Tulbagh and the surrounding areas which made this feel like a wedding celebration weekend.

Being so blessed with stunning weather and even the wind that came up after the ceremony made for some beautiful pictures. Our wedding was at Waverley Hills Organic Wine Estate, who also catered for our 42 guests with some amazing, traditional "boerekos" and their beautiful organic wine. This was a total DIY wedding and my first attempt at organizing a wedding on my own (which I will definitely continue to pursue). As I have to admit that it was hard work and late hours, every second spent on it was absolutely worth it. I learnt so much about the wedding trade along the way and have the utmost respect for brides, suppliers and even family and friends who have to "deal" with all our "bridal demands". My husband was such a godsend, as he helped me most evenings with cutting out, sticking stuff onto paper sheets, painting, making me tea while I am up late designing labels and invites, etc.

Waverley Hills is situated in the Witzenberg Valley with the beautiful backdrop of mountains, blossom fields and fynbos. This was exactly the look and feel we wanted, along with the "plattelandse" hospitality that one finds in smaller, remote towns. We can most certainly say that our day was perfect. We had so much fun, so many laughs and even a few happy tears during speeches and photo moments.

Although our wedding was in most senses traditional and very much a vintage affair, we broke some of the rules like giving everyone the chance to be able to catch the garter or bouquet. We had a rice krispies wedding cake; and one of my best male friends were one of my bridesmaids (“strooinooi”).

Also for the first time in my life I felt really pretty, thanks to my amazing hair and make-up artist, Melissa van Wyk, and our stunning photographer, Liesl Basson (who feels like a mother / sister to me). We got built so many strong relationships and bonds with these special people, along with Alize and Francois from Waverley Hills. Thank you will never be enough and we truly hope you all had so much fun with us as we had the pleasure of working alongside such amazing suppliers / friends.
I was also so blessed to have the wedding dress of my dreams, I saw a picture, then went and tried on numerous dresses and I was just never really keen on any of them. So I gave my bridesmaid's mother, tannie Annita, the photo of the dress I have seen and she said she can try to make it. What a fantastic job she did, I am truly thankful and blessed for her talents that made me look and feel like a vintage princess on our special day.

For my husband, Werner, I am eternally grateful, and the saying of marrying your best friend, I most definitely did. He is not only my rock, but my place of safety, solitude and security. God truly blessed us both with a love that has no bounds when it comes to one another.
