Zander and I got married on a warm and sunny autumn afternoon, barefoot, under an old tree in the bushveld on the 11 April 2015 at Tranquillity Spa and Lodge in Pretoria North. Despite the flurry of activity that goes along with wedding preparations, the afternoon was so peaceful. Walking down the soft bridal path with my dad at my side, we were drawn forward by the mesmerising love song sung by Zander and his groomsmen. Once by his side, the only sounds that we could hear in the stillness were the gentle breeze and the songbirds. Our wedding was simple and was brought together by both friends and family. We were engaged for six months prior to our wedding, which is more than enough time to plan, especially when you have so many friends and family to help. Zander and I wanted to organise this wedding as a couple so that it represented both of us and not just one or the other’s tastes or ideas. It made it difficult at times, particularly if one of us wanted something whilst the other wanted something else but we really would not have it any other way. If we have one piece of advice for everyone who is planning a wedding, it would be to take a step back and remember that your wedding day is only the start of a journey with the person you love.
