February 28.2015 … My wedding day. It came and went in the blink of an eye and holds so many fabulous memories. It was this beautiful summer day I envisioned when I hoped for a warm summer wedding. We ladies began our day at the Kronenburg Estate, Paarl. My talented friend and future sister-in-law arranged our hair while aunts and family friends assisted with preparations. Dad arrived at Kronenburg Estate's "secret"entry to see me in my dress a few minutes ahead of time, the photographer was on hand, and before I knew it, it was time to head to the ceremony.
A flurry of family photos followed and then it was time … Suzelle and I were squirreled away at the Estate's "sectret"room with my dad keeping an eye on arrivals and seating of honored guests. I remember walking down the aisle, focused on Mark, and don’t even remember seeing the guests. The ceremony lasted about 45 minutes and I’m glad; it gave me time to remember it. There were fun moments, serious moments, and touching moments. It was perfect and that is saying something coming from a person with an eye for imperfections.
After the photos was taken, Mark and I arrived at the reception in Dad’s best friend's silver BMW. On the way, we worried about our opening dance, which we had not been practicing even once. Our cake, which was made by my mothers friends daughter, was gorgeous, my dance with dad to "Daddy's Angel"was poignant and full of tears. Pictures from the dance floor and the photo booth as the evening wore on are priceless. One of the highlights of the evening was awarding my parents with their 32 year anniversary and our grandparents - What an honor it is to be able to have your grandparents at your wedding as not a lot of couples still have them anymore. And with a bouquet and garter at the completion of the married couples’ dance.
I am glad I have literally thousands of pictures that captured the day. It is so fun to see moments captured I wasn’t privy to that day. Here’s looking forward to many more special moments from now to forever.
