My hubby and I met at my Matric dance when he was my blind date. We didn't see each other for 4 years and reconnected, again, through a blind date set up by his friend who went on to be his Best Man.
8 years later, the day finally arrived! It seemed like it had been a lifetime of ups and downs before the day arrived. When I woke up on the beautiful spring morning on the 6th of September 2014, all I felt was relief that we had finally made it this far!!
We had a traditional African wedding in April 2014, and only started planning the "Western" wedding in May 2014! We had 5 months to plan a wedding for 350 people. Luckily, we had managed to secure a wedding Venue in January 2014.
We had to use a professional wedding planner as time was not on our side anymore! We really wanted the 6th of September as it is my husband's birthday on the 7th of September. Our wedding planner, Ntombi Nhlapo, was so efficient and always one step ahead! She helped us get things done in the short space of time because of all the contacts she had.
We had our ceremony at St Peter's School Chapel in Paulshof, Sandton. The church was packed, but by the time I took the walk down the aisle with my dad, I didn't notice anyone else but my fiancé waiting at the altar. Our bridal party entered the Chapel to traditional classical pieces played on an Organ. I walked down to the Bridal March that is traditionally used. We had a full Catholic Mass with a musician singing "Jesu, Joy of Man's desiring" among other hymns.
After the ceremony we headed to Zulu Nyala Country Manor for our reception. We had a cocktail hour, with live music and snacks and champagne were served. Our guests were kept occupied by the photo booth as we took photos. Andre M Photography did a stunning job on our photos as well as the photo booth!
Our reception began just as the sun was setting! I wanted to go for an Opulent feel and incorporate my favourite colour, pink. I wanted every possible shade of pink in the flowers, and decided to add pink candles to bring in a romantic feel. We used gold touches on the table to enhance the opulent feel. I must say that Café Fleur did an amazing job and I couldn't have asked for anything else.
Our first dance was to a song that my husband played for me on our second date, he said back then: "This is the song that we will have our first dance to". We opened the dance floor and once again we had live music from various artists as we danced the night away...
This was truly a day we will never forget and we would do it over and over again if we could!!
