On a cold winters evening, in 2012 – our love journey began… but this was no ordinary “love at first sight” kind of beginning. Heinrich confused me with another girl, and I was to say the least – not impressed! But love has a strange way of bringing people together… and as the saying goes “The Rest is History!”
Our wedding day was the happiest day of our lives! As my husband said in his speech at our wedding, he has only cried 3 times in his life… the day he asked me to marry him, the day he heard Leon Schuster was in hospital (yes, my husband is Leon Schuster’s BIGGEST fan, hehe) and that special day my father walked me down the aisle towards him.
We got married at one of the most breath-taking venues – Tsekama Private Game Reserve (in-between Nylstroom & Marble Hall) and definitely the PERFECT venue for the two of us. We both love the outdoors and this bush/wildlife venue was more than what we could have asked for. Picture perfect with a beautiful sunset, the bushveld scenery, giraffe and buck drinking water in the background, and the bride and groom promising their vows to one another over a little wooden bridge in the middle of a dam, under a thatch roof island.
Our theme was Bushveld & Proteas. Everything was very “earthy” and natural – but thanks to the amazing venue, it all still had so much style and class! A classic mix of hessian and lace, wood and fynbos. The Protea theme was used throughout our wedding from the invitations, to the flowers , the seating plan and even the cake! We had handmade paper flowers placed inbetween the table arrangements, that my sister-in-law spent hours on, just to make our day extra special and that touch of uniqueness!
We were surrounded by lots of friends and family and had such a fantastic reception – the evening flew by and everyone had an amazing time! We danced until early hours of the morning and laughter filled the surrounding bushveld! An amazing time was had by each and every guest and it was the wedding my husband and I had always dreamed of!!
We even did an impromptu performance, whilst everyone was on the dancefloor, of one of my husband's favourite songs by Leon Schuster - Mokkiesdam se Eerste Span, this was a hit amongst the guests! And one of the most memorable highlights was when my husband and his "koshuis" friends from Sonop sang their House Song. I had to stand on a chair, encircled by all the men that were in the residence, and my husband in front of me... and they sang their song... Goosebumps, I tell you!
If I could do it all over again – I would not change a thing!!!
