Kyle and I had been together eight years when he proposed to me after a spectacular dive in Mozambique. Right away we knew that we wanted our wedding to be a celebration - a celebration of the love we'd shared over the past nine years, of the love we share with our friends and family, and of the exciting journey of marriage ahead of us.
We wanted our day to be fun and informal, and Old Mac Daddy Luxury Trailer Park in Elgin, with its fabulous airstream trailers and gorgeous apple orchards, was the obvious choice of venue.
Our ceremony took place on the beautiful deck overlooking the lake. The simple, meaningful ceremony and the readings given by our two mom's were very moving, and we both shed a tear or two! Afterwards, we enjoyed bubbly, canapes and lawn games with our guests.
We continued the playful theme on the reception tables with toy animal place tags, which we spray painted gold ourselves - deciding which animal each guest would 'be' was so much fun!
One of my bridesmaids surprised us with a spectacular scuba themed wedding cake (a nod to our engagement in Mozambique and shared love of diving), which we served for dessert along with ice-cream cones. At midnight, we tucked into a pizza feast, ensuring that we had energy to dance into the early hours - our DJ was nothing short of amazing!
Our day was everything we'd ever dreamed it would be, and the outpouring of love and support from our friends and family (most of whom had traveled from Australia and the UK) was simply overwhelming. Being able to celebrate our love and commitment to each other with those who mean the most to us was just so incredibly special.
We know that the years that lie ahead of us are going to be nothing short of amazing, and our wedding day was the perfect first step on the journey of our marriage.
