Hendri and I met in 2010 and only saw one another a year later at Cape Point Vineyards, Noordhoek at a mutual friends birthday. Sitting under this big tree, our connection was hard to ignore and we fell in love.
Driving 70 kilometers for a quick visit was an easy price to pay, as I had found my man. He lived in Kommetjie and showed this city girl the most beautiful views in the area such as Cape Point Nature Reserve, beaches that I didn’t know existed, lovely picnics and long walks.
It didn’t take me very long to decide that this was where I wanted to live.
So we found a perfect little house very close to the ocean in Kommetjie and moved in together. Inside this perfect little house , one and a half years later, while the whole of the Western Cape was experiencing a heavy rain storm in the middle of November, causing havoc and floods , we sat in front of the fire place , being romantic with a glass of wine when he proposed. Out popped the engagement ring.
Suddenly his phone rang and he had a crisis at his work place due to the storm and there I sat, all by myself after just getting engaged. But no, I was not bored. With a smile on my face, trying to take the perfect picture to send to my family and friends of this beautiful ring, I felt in heaven.
I phoned my Décor, Flower & Events coordinator friend (Decor Mechanics) and told her that the time has come where she must please organize the sunflower wedding which many people knew I always dreamt of. I had my own idea of a wedding dress and didn’t want anything traditional. I met an amazing dressmaker (Wilhelmina Couture) by chance, who agreed to make my dream dress a reality.
Marrying the farm manager had its perks, so four months later we were very fortunate to get married under the very same tree where everything started in 2011.
My day started waking up at the garden suite of African Violet Guest House on the Saturday morning with my 3 sisters aka my bridesmaids. A sushi platter was arranged through the guest house for lunch and Hendri, my fiance at the time, had the master of ceremony, NJ drop off a picnic basket with champers and glasses to get us in the mood or help with the nerves, which ever reason it was an awesome surprise.
I was extremely calm for someone who was getting married in a couple of hours never-mind minutes!! but as soon as i got into the wedding car, it hit me. I asked my dad to hold on to the bouquet as my arms and legs felt like jelly. This is actually happening i thought, the best day of my life is about to kick off.
Upon arriving at the venue (Cape Point Vineyards) and seeing all our family and friends seated underneath that special tree of ours, i got that "aah" feeling, my heart melted..
Our day was captured perfectly through light, love and laughter. (CarmenVisserPhotography)
