13 December 2014 - The day I married my friend, confidant, lover and soul mate, the one I laugh with, fight with, the one who brings out the best in me, but also puts up with the worst of me.
Jonathan and I knew each other since about the tender age of about 3 years old. His parents lived and worked in the same mining community as my aunty, and holidays this little town was my home away from home. We never really played together or communicated during those years, but I’m sure serendipity had other plans for us. Fast forward a good number of years later, just before our coming of age, our paths crossed again. This time our destiny was set in motion. We started off as ‘friends’ only, but the attraction was just too strong. After a few months of hesitation and playing ‘cool’, we officially started dating. And then as they say “The rest is history’. After 6 years of dating, he proposed on our 6th ‘dating anniversary’. We live in Bloemfontein, and that morning he got off work, travelled all the way to Kimberley to ask my parents for my hand in marriage. I was obviously unaware of all these plans he had, and had plans of my own. So on his return from Kimberley, I had been waiting outside of our complex yard because I had made a prior appointment for us. Needless to say, I spoilt his plan for his ‘unique’ proposal and he was forced to ask me just there and then. After the initial shock and bouts of laughter, I said YES!!!!
Planning our wedding was fun, even with the hiccups here and there; it was certainly the best time in our lives. After a year of planning, our day finally arrived. It was the perfect summer’s day (as hot as can be expected in the town of Kimberley). My 4 bridesmaids and I woke up early to get ready at La Casa Mia guesthouse. The hostess welcomed us to some refreshments. Hair and make-up was done, and before we knew it, the time had come… At this time I was overcome with emotion. This is the day, in front of all our nearest and dearest family and friends, we would commit ourselves, before GOD, as one! That feeling is indescribable…
After the Church ceremony, just as we walked out, the clouds closed up a bit and we were blessed with little showers of blessings. Then off we went for our photo-shoot with our AMAZING photographer Lizell from Starpix. We enjoyed a fun-filled shoot with our bridal party. All that was left was to party and celebrate the night away with our family and friends. These were the memories that we will forever hold dear.
All in all, it was one of the best days of our lives. And we would do it all over again if given the chance! Mrs and Mrs Stanfley 13.12.14
