Avani Chetty (Somaroo)

Avani Chetty

Married on Nov 15, 2014

It was a beautiful Saturday in Ballito with the heavens threatening to open up on us!

We held our traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in the luscious gardens of Braeside (it was my dream to have a garden wedding - a tad unusual for an Indian bride), hence you could understand the fear of rain ruining the day... Luckily for us, God was in our favour on this special day.
The ceremony was immediately followed by a festive reception at the same venue. The food was delicious, the music irresistible to get your groove on and the people laughing and thoroughly enjoying the whole ensemble.

Being a Hindu ceremony, festivities began a few days before with the Mendhi (Henna) night (also filled with a night of dancing, eating and families coming together). This was then followed by the Nelengu evening (cleansing rituals), whereupon I was covered from head to toe in yellow turmeric paste! (Yet again followed by dancing the night away).

It truly was the most memorable time of my life...There wasn't a moment we were not laughing! Most dear to my heart was watching as all the families united and joined as one, and of course, it goes without saying; marrying The Man of My Dreams - Prean Chetty!
