I'm an Australian Citizen and married a South African Citizen/Resident on 11 January 2014 at Thaba Ya Batswana in Johannesburg.
There was nothing Australian about my wedding.
We actually planned the whole wedding all the way from Australia where we were residing.
I had two wedding dresses one from Elbeth Gillis a designer in Cape Town, my dress was made through email a year before our wedding. I emailed through measurements and photos. And when I picked it up it was perfect.
My second dress was from Dresses Divine in Bedfordview Johannesburg.
My husband bought my engagement ring back in 2011 from Johannesburg and waited a whole year to propose to me in 2012. We also bought our wedding bands from Rosebank Johannesburg.
Over Christmas/New Year 12/13 we came back home to plan the wedding, but we had already booked our venue online. In one week we booked our celebrant, photographer, videographer, cake, and even picked our menu with a year to go.
The year leading up to the wedding back in Australia was calm but it felt like a long wait till we were flying back home to ZA for the big day.
My family from Australia flew down and our friends from Australia and New Zealand for our wedding.
Everyone kept saying to us how hard it must of been to organize a wedding in South Africa while living in Australia.
We chose Thaba Ya Batswana as it was not a long drive from where our family and friends live but being at TYB made you feel like you were far away it was peaceful and beautiful. We would recommend TYB to anyone looking for a wedding venue, the staff are wonderful and were there for everything and were a big support, they took care of everything. The church and venue were flawless, and they let us keep dancing until 1:30AM. Our guests were treated like royalty.
But our food was the highlight, we had 70 guests and each and everyone commented on the amazing food.
Ryan Hogarth was our wedding officiant and fantastic, he made us feel so comfortable that we also had him as our master of ceremonies. He warmed up the room with laughter. A few of our guests have decided to also book him.
We chose Tyme Photography to capture our special day and are extraordinary talented. Our shots were not poesy and very natural. Both super professional and super friendly and wasted no time, they got amazing shots in a short time so we could party with our guests. They also set up a dress up booth/station so our guests could take silly photos of themselves, which was a highlight of the wedding.
Even after the wedding they've been amazing emailing us while we proof our photos and albums.
Our videographer was Romanza Films and such a great bunch of guys. Super friendly and never in our way. They worked and assisted us throughout our day and always had a smile on their faces. The best and biggest part was that a week after our wedding they courier a copy of our wedding video to us before we had to fly back to Australia, it was an amazing surprise, knowing the effort and days it would of taken them to do this for us.
Our cake was from Cake Genie and are extremely talented, we brought in a photo of a beautiful but weird shaped cake and straight away they were excited to make it for our day. It turned our perfect, beautiful and yum.
I remember people would say 'the day goes so fast' but for us we remember every single moment. We could not fault a single thing. We organized the whole wedding from another country and it turned out perfect.
Because we had family and friends fly from other countries after our wedding we stayed with our guests and we missed out on having a honeymoon. We actually flew back to Australia and 3 days later went back to work. Maybe we'll have our honeymoon one day, but for now we have the amazing memories from our perfect wedding day.
