Our wedding was everything that I and my then fiance (now husband) wanted and it represented who we are. It was intimate and at the same time absolute fun and we would do it all over again. Our wedding ceremony and reception was at the same venue. We wanted it to be memorable for all the good reasons, and it was. We chose an outdoor venue because we like spending quality time together in the outdoors and when we discovered this 'getaway'....it was a perfect mirror of who we are and what we aspire to be. One literally gets lost in the mystic-ness of the Winery Road Forest in Stellenbosch just outside Firgrove.
We had family and friends there and people who are actively involved in our lives as individuals and as a couple and the best part of it all was that we did not need to pretend or 'impress' anyone because they know and understand us and desire only the best for us.
One of my favorite memories of the occasion was the cake crashing a day before and then had to be 'altered' the morning of the wedding. I am forever grateful to my wedding organizer Lize Francis for being on her feet and making sure that everything ran smoothly!
My mother walked me down the aisle because she raised me as a single mother and she said that she is so proud of me and calmed Wesley when she gave me over to him at the alter. All she said was: "It's okay Wes, its okay."
Everything was a little unexpected and different. I entered into the forest through the bushes and all I looked for was meeting Wesley's eyes and as my mother and I walked, I told her thank you and that I'll always be her daughter, no-one else.
We danced the afternoon away till most of our feet hurt. Everyone was involved and it made it even more special. The colors complimented the rustic and mystique forest so well and it popped out.
I look forward to planning our 10th anniversary and God-willing, celebrate it at the Winery Road Forest.
