One of the more appealing wedding traditions, the wedding cake often comprises several tiers and is crowned with a model bride and groom. It's typically a fruit cake, but you can choose any flavour and texture you want. It has also become popular to "accessorise" the wedding cake with such decorations as jewellery and toppers.
The wedding cake was originally lots of little wheat cakes that were broken over the bride's head to bring good luck and fertility. Every guest would then eat a crumb to ensure the bridal couple's good fortune. Sleeping with a piece of wedding cake under her pillow is said to make a single woman dream of her future husband.
