Magical Moments

The highlights of the day were definitely my dad walking me down the aisle toward the man I was going to marry. He was a little emotional but all dads are.

The first dances and my dads speech on the night were very special and I think a few guests had a little tear in their eyes.

The Honeymoon

We went to the beautiful Zanzibar.

It was so relaxing and amazing. It really looks like the photos on postcards there.

We stayed at Uroa Bay Beach Resort. We ate and drank until we couldn't walk anymore. We were a little adventurous and booked a day tour to the otherside of the island. We had a boat waiting to take a group of us to go snorkeling and then we had a private area on the island where we had a seafood BBQ to end off our day.

The staff were awesome and very very friendly. Always willing to assist you with anything you need. Everyday the food was different. A cuisine from a different country each time. After dinner we had entertainment in the bar area which was so much fun. My favourite was the Masai Warriors. They invited Steve to be a part of their show as the honorary Mesai for the night.

My Special Day

My wedding look was less is more and very elegant.

Both my and my bridesmaids hair and make up were done by the girls at Absolute Beauty in Protea Heights. They came all the way out to the venue to help us. They did an amazing job and we had so much fun with them there.

My hair was curled and clipped up so the curls hang down the back. I had my Oumas pearls worked into my hairstyle as my "Something Old" for the day as she had left them for me when she passed away and that was really special to me.

My Wedding dress was made by Christel Geldenhuys in Kuilsriver. She did such a beautiful job and I was so very happy with my dress. We went through to Cape Town to pick out my material together with my mother. She did everything by hand, even stitching on the extra bling at the end. She was really a miracle worker.

I wanted to do something different with my shoes so I found a shoe the same colour as our wedding... the minty blue colour by Sissy boy. So comfortable as well which was a bonus.

My jewellery was also very special as I borrowed my aunties pearl earrings and she also gave me a single pearl necklace and this was also my something borrowed.

My maid of honour had my garters made for me. They were blue and white with Star Wars signs on them as Steve is a huge Star Wars fan. One of the garters also had our Surname and wedding date stitched on. She had 2 made so that I could toss the one and keep one for myself.

The Venue

We got married at Hudsons at Vredenheim Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.

The venue was so beautiful with the mountains as the backdrop. We had our ceremony outside with reception upstairs in the loft venue.

The food was the highlight of the evening and every guest we have spoken to after the wedding mentioned the food. So tasty and full of flavour and more than enough food for the night.

The staff were so helpful and friendly to work with too. I would definitely recommend Hudsons as a wedding venue

My Bridal Beauty Regime

Before our wedding I did not not stress too much about a beauty regime but I did get spoiled before the big day.

I went for a Vitamin C Boost facial at Placecol which left my skin so soft and supple. My brother even said it looked like my skin was glowing I was so shiny.

I also went for my nails at Placecol. I had french manicure gel nails done. They looked so beautiful and lasted so long.

Wedding Elements

The decor we decided on was not to do too much fancy but rather a pretty and rustic style.

We had wooden logs on all the tables with various hand sprayed bottled with greenery in them. We also had different sized cages and lanterns on the table with candles and flowers in them.

Each table had a name that was laser cut from wood. The names were of all the places Steve and I have traveled together which made it extra special.

At the beginning of the aisle we had antique suitcases with flowers on them and the bridesmaids carried Chinese umbrellas down the aisle instead of flowers just to be a little different.

We also hired a wooden log cake stand that had a rose gold wire stand underneath it which really stood out.

My Groom And His Groomsmen

The Groom and the groomsmen wore suits from Knox.

The suits were dark grey. Steve wore a suit jacket and the guys just wore their white shirts.

They all had minty blue ties that matched and my dad got a tie too.

All the men wore black shoes and each one received a pair of funky socks that could stand out during the photos.

Instead of boutonnieres, each guy got a little Star Wars Lego figurines with some babies breathe at the back.

Beautiful Bridesmaids

The bridesmaids had their dresses hand made.

They were the minty blue colour of the wedding and each one of them look absolutely stunning.

They were infinity dresses so that each girl could choose their own style.

They were made of a soft silky material with a tulle layer on the bottom to give it a bit of volume.

They wore a nude shoe with the dress to finish it off.

Marriage Officer

Our Marriage officer was Troy Goldie.

We could really not have asked for anyone better. We met with him twice before our wedding so that he could get to know us a bit better.

He wanted to be able to tell our story or how we met and a bit about our relationship at the wedding.

He is very funny and we loved how he got the guests involved in our ceremony. He had us all laughing throughout.

My Captured Moments

Our photographer was Nikolai Polzenhagen.

AMAZING!! is all I can say. We are beyond happy with our wedding photos.

Nikolai himself came through to take the photos of me and my bridesmaids getting ready while his assistant went through to take the photos of Steve and his groomsmen.

They made us feel so comfortable and we had a lot of laughs with our photos. We had a few funny photos taken too.

Nikolais style of photos are just awesome, his dark photos are the reason we hired him as our photographer.

We also had a photo booth on the wedding night. We hired The Party Technician. They are very professional and friendly and we enjoyed them on the night. All guests got unlimited prints of all of their photos and there were so many props to choose from too.

For during our pre drinks we hired Mr & Mrs M Wedding games to entertain our guests. They all had so much fun & games. The 2 ladies that hosted the games even commented on what an awesome group of people we had together. They took photos of all the games and loaded them online for us. Their service was just awesome and very professional. I would definitely recommend them to any bridal couple.

Wedding Transport

Our wedding car was a bottle green 36 Ford.

Its was such a beautiful car and big enough to fit me and all 4 of my bridesmaids in at once.

It was perfect for our wedding photos.

Wedding Stationery

Our Save the Dates were made by Michele Basset at Little Works.
So much creativity. She designed beautiful square magnets for us to give the guests so that they could diarise our wedding date. They were made in the same colour as our wedding, the minty blue colour.

We did not have regular wedding invitations but rather a digital Mario bros. video which Steves father, Tony had made for us. It was so cute and all of the guests loved it.

Guests name tags I had made myself with the help of my brother. We hand painted pegs with each guests name and had them pegged onto the champagne glasses as name place cards.

The Reception and Entertainment

Steve and I did not take dance lessons. We both know how to dance and had a blast on the night of our wedding.

DJ Dean was or DJ for the night, he also did the music for me walking down the aisle as well as during the pre drinks.. Awesome music!! All of the guests loved everything that he played. A lot of 80's and 90's music was requested. Dean also did our sound and lighting for the night.

Our guests danced the night away. We even had 1 or 2 dance offs on the night.
