Amy Caitlin Carr

Married on May 6, 2017 in Gauteng

Our wedding was set in the beautiful Central Drakensberg, Champagne Valley region on the most perfect Autumn day. Our ceremony was held on the lawn of my now husband's family home and our reception at Wits End.
We chose the Drakensberg, and particularly the family home, as it is 'a little piece of Heaven' as my husband's late Oupa used to say.
We wanted to create a very minimalist, rustic and intimate wedding with those who have influenced both our lives - it was the most perfect and happy day.
I altered my late Granny's wedding dress into a more modern style - the lace is over 60 years old and I felt like a princess! Luckily, I found an amazing dress maker who helped recreate the perfect look.
We used empty Protea wine bottles and used Douwe Egberts coffee lids as part of our table setting at the reception to keep costs down and create a personal touch - I would encourage all brides who have time and the energy (and the sanity ;)) to keep things simple and try use every day items that can be reinvented for a different purpose.
The whole day was full of smiles and laughter and we partied right into the early hours of the morning - we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day.
We turned our wedding into a weekend celebration by offering a prego braai to our guests on the Friday evening and a casual hangover brekkie on the Sunday morning after the wedding - this definitely helped with the atmosphere among our guests.
All in all, we had the best time and we are excited about our future together as the Carr's!
