Glenecia Roberts

Married on Feb 4, 2017 in Garden Route

The Start of Our Special Journey

My now husband, Jurich and I met in 2009 I was in my second year of studies towards my LL.B degree. On our way to Beaufort West to visit some friends the love seed started growing... The weekend passed and like the saying goes ... the rest is history.

Our Engagement

In February 2016, I received a job offer in Cape Town. The evening, 30th March 2016 before I relocated to Cape Town Jurich took me to the beach were we took our first photos together, Victoria Bay Beach in George (the heart of the Garden Route). With sushi and champagne in a picnic basket, Jurich went on his knee and asked me to be his wife. With a flood of emotions (happiness, surprise, excitement and joy) he received a yes. Yes, soon I would be his wife.

The next 72 hours were extremely overwhelming, ending a chapter in George, moving to Cape Town and starting a new job with my fiance close to me.

The wedding planning started...oh and what an experience to plan a wedding in George all the way from Cape Town. Jurich had to endure every wedding expo with me and this is where we realized the elegant barn theme is what we preferred more (less is definitely more). Our invitations being wooden laser-cut invitations with matching Save the Dates - which we made into DIY fridge magnets, was done by Xplore Designs. We added boxes that were white (to bring in the elegance) and brown.

I made a list of all my "To Do's" and with the assistance of my amazing Maid of Honour (Psalm Tobias) bridesmaids (Fiona May, Tezna Abrahams and Nicole Swart) and friends, all the do's was done between Cape Town and George.

Our Wedding Day - 04 February 2017

The night before our wedding day I slept in my old room in my parents’ home in George. It was good for my soul, spending a quiet night in a room I slept in for as long as I can remember.

My bridesmaids and Maid of Honour all got dressed at my parents’ home...hair, make-up and coupled with nerves were atmosphere... and at 14:30 pm we were all ready. I could not be late for the most important appointment in my life.

On our wedding day there was light but consistent rain. Right then and there, I thanked God for the rain and knew that these were showers of blessings for our union to start.

Being a total daddy's girl we made jokes outside the church doors and he scolded everyone that came to tell me Jurich was emotional...he knows I get very emotional. Walking down the aisle was an experience I won't ever forget - seeing Jurich's face and the relief, thankfulness and happiness was evident in his face...what a sweet moment!

The word brought by our Apostle, that I have known since I was a toddler, was special and encouraging. The service... to say it was beautiful would be an understatement. We said our vows and the Apostle and Pastor blessed us... My make-up artist requested me not to cry until the ceremony was done...I failed at this, as the emotions were too much. Right when our union was blessed, the tears streamed my face - oh how amazing it is to be his wife and him to be my husband. Knowing what we have conquered, made the moment so much more special for us.

The formalities were over and it was time to celebrate our wedding day! The rain never stopped...maybe became less but definitely didn't stop. We stopped for some couple portraits in the Waboomskraal area, just over the Outeniqua Mountains. As a couple we love the outdoors and love hiking, this is why we wanted greenery and nature to be present through-out our wedding day.

Our Photographer, Ruan Redelinghuys is the best! Even before we got engaged, I always told Jurich that one day, I only want one photographer to take my wedding photos and that his Ruan. Ruan is amazing! I was nervous because of the weather that we won't be able to get nice outdoor photos, but Ruan is such a pro at what he does, the weather did not matter at all.

Ruan put us at ease and we were able to enjoy the first few hours of being husband and wife in his presence. Relaxation kicked in and we enjoyed this moment so much. The special part is that Ruan caught all the emotion so perfectly on his camera.

Every photo is a story not only of our wedding day, but of our journey we have been blessed to walk together. Every smile and giggle is exactly how we are when we alone. Never a dull moment with my husband, he makes me laugh sometimes for the most silliest things.

We headed to the reception and had a ball of a evening! So grateful to have spent the day with everyone who drove very far to be there!

Oh, how blessed are we to spend the rest of our lives together... here's to a lifetime of happy memories. Should we encounter obstacles, we will do exactly with them like we did in the past... use them as stepping stones to reach our goals, to grow together in the love we share.

Take a moment and view our special day... and remember we should cherish love. Always.
